SciFi channel now shows wrestling...

...whats next?...nascar?

The title says it all...I am at a loss for words,at least words that can be openly used here.

I knew they had reached a new low (or so I thought) when they were running that John Edwards, talking to the dead bullshit, but being a show about the paranormal I could just kinda make the connection. His show was offensive to any sane intelligent person and he deserves ANY bad mojo that comes his way.

But wrestling?...I would,if I actually had money for that tier of programming, cancel my service no matter what else I would lose...in protest.

If the money is better just dump scifi completely and give the rednecks another mullet inspired channel because your giving sci fi a bad name and you obviously have zero respect for its viewers.

Some have claimed the addition of wrestling brought in a new crowd of scifi watchers and that there was already a large demographic of people who watched both... oh BULLSHIT!

IF that were even true...do real scifi fans want to watch ANY scifi show that wrestling fans would like?

Not in my universe.    guess I wasnt at a loss for words after all. :hrmph:

As a longtime tv and movie watcher I have over the years come to realise...Hollywood(and all media providers)thinks your STUPID...they have no repect for YOU or even the shows they create. They dont CARE if they ruin/cancel your favorite show.Only money matters and sometimes not even that if some exec just hates a show.

Example...Fred Freiberger producer...responsible for the final seasons of Star Trek,Space 1999,6Million dollar man and others.

Bad luck?Bad shows? No viewers?...nope,somebody wanted those shows dead and Fred was the man for the job. 8| :sheep:

I do find ONE connection between wrestling and scifi...they both deal with some very farfetched fantastical subjects. 8(|

At a glance this seems like an April fools joke but sadly, its absolutely true. :'(

True and an absolute bummer. Like there aren't excellent and classic SF movies, etc. to screen. I'm with you, I.R.  #:(

They have been running ECW since June 2006.  You only just noticed this now?  Do you also know they are changing their name from Sci-Fi to Sy-Fy because they want other ranges of programming other than just space ships and aliens.

This is the kind of thing that happens when you put people in charge who dont know anything about scifi, science, physics etc...

they dont even usually watch tv...they dont care for scifi if they do watch tv and if they do like scifi, they like it to to be simple, more western like...please dont expect them to THINK.Give them tits and rayguns!(disclaimer...I too like tits and rayguns but not to the exclusion of depth of story, scientific accuracy etc...) :inlove:

Too much scifi has given in to some non scifi execs idea of what viewers wanted...stunt casting, gimmicky concepts and so on.

I dont have cable so no I didnt know til I was reading about what to replace bsg with.I also found out about the rediculous name change at the same time...like I said above...why not just drop any pretense of being dedicated to scifi programming? They are killing it anyways if they want to add more types of programming.

They have mishandled the channel for so long they need to give up and sell it to someone who actually LIKES scifi.

Some viewers that admitted to watching both wrestling and scifi tried to defend their intelligence to the scifi only detractors.

Saying that just because they liked wrestling didnt automatically mean they were mullet wearing retards.

I say...If you like wrestling for any other reasons than watching sweaty men in tights or watching makes you feel metally and culturally superior for the few moments before you switch channels...then,YES,you are a retard.

Yeah IR...it has always bugged seeing wrestling of all things on the scifi channel...go figure. And on top of that its been nothing but repeats of old shows and they can't tell me ther aren't any other good shows or programs out there to show. It's really sad.

and i say thats the most uninformed and uneducated remark i have every heard come from you I.R, You stereotype people for watching something you yourself may not like, well thats your choice, i don't like the wrestling either but just because someone else does , i don't stand in inbecilic judgement of them. The same stereotype could be applied to any watcher of Science fiction, (geek, nerd, trekkie etc etc). Get off your high horse about a subject thats not even worth mentioning and come back to the real world please. Yes thats a world where we don't care what people wan't to watch on TV and we certainly do NOT judge them because of it. :)

Yeah IR....your a doodyhead! XD :P   :X :w00t:

I disagree...I have said way more stupid stuff than that. :dur:

In my book(page eleventyseven)...liking wrestling qualifies you as a tard.I refuse to be PC about a subject as culturally important and black and white as wrestling on the scifi channel. ;P

The same stereotype could be applied to any watcher of Science fiction, (geek, nerd, trekkie etc etc)

Of course,I agree...whats good for geese and so on...I embrace my inner, outer nerd and so cannot be insulted in any way by the tardly. (\B):vulcan:(\B)

I'm kidding with you Nimbin...you can never take what I say TOO seriously...

come back to the real world please

NEVER!...I regret I have but 1 life to give for my scifi! :cylon:

It's been this way over the entire range of cable channels.  The prices just keep going up and the service goes down.  It's a sad state of affairs.  As for the wrestling on Sci-Fi, well there has to be some programming beside Sesame Street for those who have yet to acquire above a two digit I.Q..

Its a sign of the APOCALYPSE...you know, the whole dogs and cats in unnnatural relationships, the govt involving itself in bailouts,Alyson Hannigan got pregnant and I was NOT the father.

The worst thing about that is you pay twice...money for the privelege of watching even more commercials.

1967...an episode of Star Trek was 50-51 minutes long...now what is it?A typical episode on tv is what, about 44-46 minutes? Less maybe?

But why did you have to include NASCAR in your title? At least it's not fake like Wrestling and Science Fiction.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge SciFi fan, but I'm also a race fan. Personally I like Formula 1, but all racing is good in my book.

whose horse is high there? hmmmmmmmmmmmm? ;P

Nascar is closely associated to rednecks and mullets...I dont watch it but its kinda real...but it also does not belong on the scifi channel.

Liking Nascar dosnt qualify you as a tard...but I'll be keeping an eye on you. :P

Fer my next rant...'doctor' Phil... X|

Yep, And don't forget...the money for the commercials raises the price of the "goods" or, in this case the "not so goods".

been watching commercials for 40 years now and other than food I dont remember buying a single item because I saw a commercial for it...selective memory possibly but not much.

I recently recorded an episode of Lost for later viewing... after removing the ads, the actual show ran for 39.57 minutes... take out the "Previously on Lost" and you've only got 35 -36 minutes of new material.

It's all in pursuit of the almighty 'advertising' dollar... and TV execs, believing they have a captive audience, care nothing of the viewer and will continue to erode our viewing experience.

The prices just keep going up and the service goes down.

Ain't that the truth! I was considering Foxtel via cable to get Rugby League games that aren't shown on free-to-air, but to get that I would be forced to purchase umpteen shopping and news channels I'd never ever watch, such is the packaging structure... and then there's 20+ years worth of repeats... shows that are repeated several times annually, and new content is far and few between.

I had Foxtel about 10 years ago, but with the way they've restructured their packages, I'd have to pay and extra $49 to get the same channels as I had then... and we've already discussed the endless repeats, so they can shove it where the sun don't shine, cos $89.95 per month for very minimal new content and a handful of Rugby League games is hardly value for money.

Also, there should NEVER EVER be advertising on pay TV.  You're paying a premium price to avoid commercials, and airing ads is double dipping at your expense... protest this by closing your wallets.

As for airing the wrestling on the sci-fi channel... well that's no different to showing adult movies/content on Nickelodeon during peak childerens viewing times... it's inappropriate and out of context.  Shame on the programmers.

At one time not all of them did...only channels that already ran commercials because they were city locals or network affiliates...true cable channels didnt have commercials(or at least a lot didnt).

But they figured if some could and get away with it(and you would still pay)why not us too.MO MONEY!

I choose to say no...I dont even leave the tv on the same channel during commercials...I flip over to pbs or something during the breaks.(sometimes I forget what I was watching...must not have been very interesting haha)

You could ask why do you watch at all if you dont like the way they do things...well I need my downtime because of poor health,tv massages my brain so I can stop thinking for a bit.

When I can afford it I sign up for Blockbuster or Netflix and order tv shows on dvd...for about 1.50$ you get 5 episodes,no commercials and it hasnt been shortened to fit around extra commercials. And you can watch them in order,in much less time than on tv and as many episodes back to back as you like...a nice plus. :D

For years people(even some in the govt)have been trying to get cable providers to offer an ala carte service...picking which channels you wanted to pay for rather than tiers of service that contained channels you NEVER watch.

But obviously they HATE that idea...channels would die because nobody would pay for them...and that would drastically drop the percieved value of cable...no more we have 280 channels!(250 of which are crap...that you pay for whether you watch or not...sounds like taxes to me) XD
