Saving the planet
I have been reading with some interest about how we must save the planet from man. I was part of the first Earth Day way back in the 70’s and worried about the coming ice age. Here are a few facts that might help you understand what is happening and put it all in perspective.
Ten billion years from now the sun will burn itself out, run out of fuel and die. Dose anyone care? No, we will all be dead by then and no one cares that far into the future.
Five billion years from now the sun will have reached its largest size expanding all the way into the orbits of Mercury, and Venus. The heat from that expansion will boil stone on Earth. Does anyone care? No, because we will all be dead by then and no one cares that far into the future.
Two hundred and fifty million years from now the heat from the sun will melt all the mountains on the Earth so there will be no mountains or valleys. Does anyone care? No, because we will all be dead and no one cares that far into the future.
One hundred and forty thousand years from now all the water on the Earth will have boiled or evaporated away, killing all but microbial live on the planet. Does anyone care? No, because we will all be dead and no one cares that far into the future.
Thirty thousand years from now we will have a full-blown ice age. This wont last long because of the Sun’s expansion and in fifty thousand years, the Earth will be hotter than it is right now. Does anyone care? No, because we will all be dead and no one cares that far into the future.
People cry about mankind destroying the planet yet we have not done a single thing to save mankind. While standing on the moon special photographs were taken of the Earth and it was discovered that our oceans are evaporating into space. Has anyone even attempted to point this out and try to stop it? No, because it is beyond man’s ability to stop the same process that happened on the planet Venus and is happening here on the Earth. Just in case you don’t grasp what I have written here is the plain truth. Without liquid water everything on this planet dies. This means that we have roughly one hundred thousand years to save mankind or we are all doomed.
It does not matter if we plant a tree on every square yard of soil on this planet it will all come to an end in a few thousand years. Do you care? I seriously doubt it because no one is trying to protect the species from extinction. Instead we are arguing over silly things like global climate change, something that has been happening for millions of years.
Though the dates may be off by a few decades are centuries the fact remains the same, Planet Earth is doomed and there is nothing that man can do to save it.
Global Climate Change, a phrase that gets thrown around as if it means something. Here is what it means. The planet it 4.5 billion years old. In that time the climate has changed three times, first it was a ball of molten rock with an atmosphere of nitrogen and sulfur dioxide. Organisms flourished and all was well with the world.
The Earth cooled and other organisms began to consume the sulfur and fart oxygen, this caused the climate to change to nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen atmosphere. This was toxic to most all the organisms on the planet.
Plants grew from this mix, they consume carbon and fart oxygen. This caused another climate change and the atmosphere became nitrogen oxygen with trace elements of sulfur and carbon as well as other even smaller trace elements. This became toxic to the last dominant species that fed on sulfur and is now becoming toxic to organisms that consume carbon because there is so little of it. This is why we are seeing a decline in coral reefs. There is not enough carbon dioxide in seawater for them to grow as they once did. The carbonic acid in the water is so reduced that other species now flourish that man consumes as food called fish. The fish that did not adapt died. Remnants can be found on the ocean floor where volcanic vents spew out the nutrients and warmth they need to survive, but the sea life is so toxic to man that if we tried to eat them we would die. They need water temperature to be between seven hundred and nine hundred degrees with a high sulfur content. That was how the earth was for them millions of years ago, now it can only be found in a few hundred hot spots on the ocean floor. Do you want to save the planet and turn it back to that thus saving them from extinction? It would mean the extinction of mankind but we could do it if we tried. Well not really, we could attempt to do it and kill off a few billion species but in the end they had their shot and they will slowly die out no matter what we do.
The species that changed the climate for mankind is dying out in the oceans because we don’t produce enough carbon dioxide for them to live. Next will be plant life on the surface like trees and wheat. Yes, they will die out and with it all the Vegans.
Yes, the climate is changing and we had nothing to do with it three times and we still have not done anything to affect the climate.
Add to this plate tectonics that are slowly moving our continents around the planet like pieces on a chessboard. India used to be part of Antarctica and it is now several thousand miles away. At three times in the history of the Earth we have had one super continent. Each time the climate changed. Two hundred and fifty million years from now we will have another super continent and the climate will change again. In that time the planet Earth will have gone through at least one more ice age and one more heat wave. Mankind will have to live on the coastal regions of the super continent because the interior will be a vast desert. Think of Australia only bigger.
So we will have the oceans evaporating, the Sun getting hotter, larger and closer to the Earth. Oh, I almost forgot we would all be dead by then. Does anyone care?
With all of this, and this is the optimistic view of how things are happening, what do you propose to save the planet or mankind?
Plant a tree, carbon credits? We have to get the species off the planet and we have to move quickly or we are all doomed. The only remnant of mankind will be five probes that we have sent out of the solar system and seventy years of broadcasts that fade to nothing about thirty trillion miles from here.
Save the planet? For whom? This rock is dead and there is nothing we can do to stop it. With our current technology we have not found a planet we can move to and if we did we can’t get there in less than ten life times. Meaning we need to stop wasting resources on saving a dying planet and start using them to save us!
