TV and movie theme songs

TV and movie theme songs

which were your favorites?

I was a musician once upon a time and have always had a special appreciation for instrumental music, mostly progressive rock, but there is a subgenre of music that gets overlooked a lot...themesongs. B)

I think part of the reason is we only get about 1 and a half minutes and then the show starts...or a commercial blares in.But if you ever get to hear the extended versions, some of them are incredible. It dosnt hurt if just hearing the first few note conjures up warm fuzzies from the past or lets you know something good is about to happen.

Some of my favorites are...

Voyage to the bottom of the sea...moody,dramatic and really fit the show.

Space 1999...wow,mega jumping bass, pseudo porn track guitar  alternating with blaring horns and strings...too freakin' cool.

Mission Impossible...inyer face bassline,jazzy flute,big horns...KAT cool man.

Monty Pythons flying circus...wth!?...this is some countries national anthem, they played it every morning while my flight marched by in the morning(EARLY in the morning) while I was in bootcamp. We got in trouble EVERY morning for laughing as we went by...guess the DI wasnt a PBS viewer.

Peter Gunn...many a stripper twirled her tassles to this one...its just plain raunchy.

Red Dwarf...hard to picture this song with a scifi show...til you know the story about Lister's plans for life after the space corp."goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes" :D

Lost in Space...spectacular John Williams. There were 2 of them and both were great.

Dr. Who...weeeeiiiiiiiirrrrrrrd man.

Buck Rogers in the 25th century...show was silly but the theme was terrific.(WILMA DEARING! oh my!)SouthPark did a hilarious take on the whole opening montage with Cartman...you gotta see it if you were even a minor Buck Rogers fan.

James Bond...the main theme is truly iconic and 2 of the movie title themes were among my favs...You only live twice, and Tomorrow never dies.

So what are some of you favorites?

a free place to hear some...quality fair but I bet you could find much better...mine are from cd's.  http://www.televisiontunes.com/index.php

Movie-wise I love the theme from Star Wars. Gives me goosebumps.

From TV, I agree with Psych, and The Rockford Files, but my fav is the theme from Newhart-the one where he had the inn. It's a really mellow piece by Henry Mancini.

I used to get revenge on my neighbor with the 1812 Overture, too! Then one day during our music war, he had the nerve to come to MY door and yell about the loud music! I just said "How do you like it?" and shut the door! I moved after that because someone that ballsy scares me!  8C

Nah, I'm just an old man,

DUDE!  You're only a year older than me!  Maybe not even that, depending on when your birthday is...we probably graduated the same year.  Your mind is sharp as a tack, and I can't hold a candle to that.  There are parts of my life that I might as well have been in a coma for, for all that I can remember (admittedly, some of those times I worked very hard at forgetting.)

The rest of the stuff you said in that post is very kind, and I thank you.  :inlove:

If anybody puts this up as a fave theme I'm gonna seek to have men in white coats go around to their place with strait jackets and the appropriate meds... not to mention start up a petition which moves to have that person set to visitor status to protect the majority from minority lunacy

;P :w00t: :-" :P

I knew somebody had to post it... should have guessed it'd be you.  Oh well, looks like those nice young men in their clean white coats 'll be here shortly... just hope they put the strait jacket on the right person.

;P

man was that schmaltzy.

I'll say... I'd rather listen to rap crap or chalk being dragged down the blackboard. :(O

Shoot, even Wacko Jacko doing the theme song to The Beverley Hillbillies in E-Flat would be more bearable... just. :S o_O

Oh damn.  Maurice Jarre, best known for composing the song Lara's Theme (Somewhere my love) from Dr. Zhivago, just died today at the age of 84.

Read it here

Well it's no wonder MouseGoddess.  John Williams has been composing most music associated with our life time more than anyone.

Spanning from the 50's to today with new releases already for 2010-11 check out his list of film scores, it'll dawn on you that there aren't too many songs you've heard by him that doesn't give you chills!

Red Dwarf is meant to have a 21st Birthhday special this year - ITV finances not good though.

It's official, 3 new programs have been made and are set to air early April in Europe on the satellite channel Dave. The 3 new episodes are set to premiere over the Easter weekend in fact, the Eps are named Back to Earth, Parts 1, 2 and 3 !! Watch out for the brand new plush sleeping 1/4ers.

Dave Red Dwarf details here.
