Enough of this "let's all get along" malarky. We're here to conquer!

GIT-R-Done!

H ey, remember how Ben Hogan discovered the secret of golf? Well, I've just discovered the secret of ToA, and it has NOTHING to do with Race Behavior 3! It can, in fact, be implemented using powerful custom races that you create using the in-game setup screens!

Join this Empire in it's quest for 25 Million Points, and I'll show you the way the the 3-Million point character!

The Twilight Pub is the bothyn of good-natured ToA stooshie. In other words, it is a place to fool around with different ideas, try various ToA tech trees, and completely disregard the competitive aspects of the metaverse. The empire is open, so anyone can come and go as they please. We're just here bumpin our gums and acting like blootered windae-lickers.

The former TwP logo shall remain:

Japanize animated series called "Ghost in the Machine" and they also got couple animated moives about it too. If you have animatrix on cable, you might catch it. It is not for kids either due to its langauge and blood and other things.   It is really detail plot with some subplots and its hard to explain if you never seen it.

I have a question? How many basic life supports do you normally put on a colony ship in the planet rush phase on a Immense map. Any advice?

I don't see any reason to put more than 1 extra module unless you are playing in a sparsley populated map. Speed is far more important than range in the Immense galaxy.

Do you know how many life supports it would take to cover the whole Immense map if I had one planet? I was setting up a survey ship. 10 life support gives me 19.6pc. and 6 Sensor IVs that gives the cap of 15r, you should saw the ship before I found out there was a cap on sensors (30 Sensor IVs that gave me 75r) I except there is no cap on life support?

If speed is my answer then I have a new question how many engines do you run with? On my Xenon Class Ships, I have 6 engines that run 45spd with sometimes 1 sensor and 1 life support.

Thank you Snark. I need more data input on this subject.

actually, i believe there is a cap on range. i'm just not exactly sure how it works, and i've never tested it. however, my impression from casual observation is that passive range (civ-bonus) and specific range (range bonus provided by life support modules) work separately. TBQH i don't know if it's possible to cover an entire immense map from just one planet with only these two methods of increasing ship range. in any case, most of the time early in a game, the best way to expand your ships' range (without colonizing) is by building starbases.

PS: thank you for asking a specific question; they're much easier to respond to.

I get speed bonuses by researching Impulse Drive, then buying the Arcean speed techs. During the colony rush, I occasionally rush-buy a stripped-down ship with nothing buy a colony module from the planet closest to the planet I wish to colonize. I get the vast majority of my planets via trade or culture-flip, so I do not rely very heavily on colonization. If I wipe out the AIs too early and HAVE to colonize, a single warp drive is all I generally use.I do not colonize from my home planet unless the target planets are very close.

how much speed do you strap on them 1/1 badboy upgrades?  i anticipate long turn times.

I did my first test on that life suppport cap and the results is that cargo that has 84 spaces can hold 16 ultra life support (5 spaces each) that gives a range of 30.9. That covers almost half (3/8s) the immense map.

I am trying put together a fast survey ship but there no way going to put 16 ultra life supports on it. To start out with , it has 6 engines and no attack.

thanks for input

did you try testing it with no life supports, and with only 1, 2, 3, etc.? if my casual impressions were correct, you wouldn't see any increases after the 4th LS module or so. of course, i never claimed they were correct.

:S

No, I didn't but first chance I get, I will  then I will tell you what the result was.

o_O

Edit: I have to start a new game to test your theory. It seems to have gradual increase in range. Oh 16 life support changed some weird reason, now I go any where on the map instead of just half the map.

I do have another question for you ya. What is your settings in your Virtual Memory on your CPU? I changed mine from 5,000MB to 10,000MB because of "Out of Memory" error but 3,000 MB is the defualt setting? Any ideals why it keeps crashing at a higher seeting? My video card is ATI x1550.

Haha  - the other day I was on my run through my nearby forrest and I witnessed this phenomenon twice. Dunno why, but my mind flew right back to this site and I felt like a complete @ss spontaniously laughing while running past these poor beings   O:) (actually took a while finding this thread again, but I knew I'd seen it somewhere)

.....actually took a while finding this thread again.....

I've been somewhat remiss in keeping this thread in a position of prominence lately. Those pesky Atlarians showed up with a fleet of warships again and forced the entire Snathi civilization to learn how to tie-dye and sing folk songs in large fields of repulsively delightfully fragrant wildflowers. As usual, a terrible accident disrupted the process. One day we were watching the Altarian military command prancing through a field with these odd objects called "baloons". We were so disgusted inspired by this sight, that we scurried off to convert some of our hovering anti-matter mines to this purpose. We painted them up reallllll good with flowers and smiley faces, and adjusted the anti-gravity nodes to the perfect settings to mimic the Altarian ceremonial balloons. As you know, we get a tad overzealous sometimes, and fail to thing things through completely. We completely missed a clerical error in the instruction manual that instructed the users to tie the strings to the detonator rings. Of course, we had absolutely NO idea that the Altarians were going to present these "baloons" to the Torians in some stupid peace negotiation. Hehe....err...oops...

Hey Snark, I see the TWP is not listed in the AltMeta.  If you want it to be, just PM Kryo and he'll set it up.

Big news on the game controller front this morning:

I got a Wacom Bamboo digital tablet and configured it for GC2. It will take some getting used to, but my deflicted wrist will benifit tremendously. A couple of notes:

In XP, it is best to set up a new user account for GC2. The gizmo can be configured differently for each user.

Set one pen button to right-click and the other to double-click or "pop-up menu". You have to uncheck "fullscreen" in the GC2 video options for the popup to work. I programmed most of the GC2 hotkeys into the popup.

The slider control is MUCH better with the pen tablet than it is with the mouse.

I programmed the four buttons on the tablet for ctrl-n, ctrl-s, enter, and F8/ESC.

Now I can lean WAY back in my chair and play!

@Snarkotamus, man really love your stories. I wonder how the Altarians explained that they didn't know. Mmm maybe like in "Ice Age 3" when Sid thought he was getting milk instead he was running for his life and screaming  " I didn't know you where a boy."

You have any tips on how set up the planet governor? I didn't like the way it worked but now after it has been fixed, I'm give it another try.

My current inclination is this:

Set up a very simple global PG that you can apply to all planets, then set up some other PGs that concentrate on manufacturing, research, and economics. as planets complete their initial PG, assign one ofthe others based on the bonus tiles. Also, it is probably a good idea to make a couple of different PGs that are designed to take advantage of the farming bonus tiles.

I have not tested more than two PGs yet, so more research is in order.

It seems to work with two PGs at once. I have one that is a Money Maker and the other one is a Ship Builder. I did notice that it automainc puts buildings on the right bonus tiles like farm building on a farm bonus tile. Have you seen this done too?
