Vasari Rofls me <_<

so im playing unlocked teams 4 hard AI.

2 tec, 1 advent, 1 vasari and I am tec

took out purple early and agresively expanded into green. I couldnt touch the advent fleet and built a small defense fleet to ward him off at a choke point. I was gettign frustrated when I found out the vasari took out the advent. At this point, i was controling about 65% of the map. The vasari now has 2300 fleet capacity and much worse economy than me. All he does is stack his fleet. After several save/load attemts i am getting super frustrated. He has like 70 transporters 60 heavy cruisers bunch of subverters and some other ships. I understand subverters are pretty nast. I tried kodiak/hoshikos. I tried that with flak frigates. Light frigates. Lrms. Doesnt matter what I do, i end up making a planet with 5 frigate factories and send in wave after wave of ships and he just takes them out because RA feeds him free ships and my economy cant keep up. Any idea what i can do? I have him pinned down to like 7 planets and i managed to take control of his last teran but i cant kill his fleet. Any ideas?

thanks

chris

RA ships are not free.  Your fleet seems liek its not big enough, you can't hope to defeat 2300 fleet points with anything but 2000 of your own.  How many capital ships you have and what levels? You need probably 3 marzas at lvl 6, that would take a good chunk out of his fleet.  Play defensive while you amass Marzas, a pair of dunnovs, to sheidl them, and a pair of Kols with flak burst, since you say he has lot of carriers.  Toss in lrms, flak, lots oh hoshikos, kodiaks, some carriers of your own, and Cielos won't hurt.  You can probably skip light frigates.  Don;t try to focus fire his capital ships, isntead focus on killign as many frigates as you can, mostly for XP for your cap ships. Once you have 3 missile barrages fromt eh Marzas, you can kill his whole fleet.  But until then flak burst and flak will give you steady stream of XP from his strike craft.

Also it would be ebst if you can lure his fleet to fight you at your planet, in which case you can use a starbase with Safety Overide protocol to blow his fleet up, isntead of marza missile barrage. But also fighting him in your repair bays will give you big boost.

Late game TEC is about blowing up large part of enemy fleet :)  That will give you an upper hand like nothign else.

There's one dirty trick you can use against the AI.  Split your fleet into two groups, and then scout out his empire to see where he's positioned his main force.  Attack the opposite side of his empire.  He will immediately head there to protect it (you may want to equip some bombers to quickly destroy any phase stabilizer).  As soon as he's a few jumps away, launch your second fleet to attack the newly defenseless front.  As soon as he shows up to defend either location, run away.  As soon as he leaves to defend the other location, come back to start fighting.  It's actually possible to destroy an AI's entire empire without ever confronting its fleet.  The AI doesn't know how to split its forces up into multiple groups, and just runs around in circles all day while you slowly gain territory.

Missile barrage is a great way to clear a huge fleet value of enemy troops, but there are some other abilities you should use.  Flak barrage from the Kol battleship is your best method to control enemy strike craft.  You do need to time it right to maximize the number of targets, so auto-cast must be turned off.  Dunov with shield restore is also great, but don't under-estimate EMP or magnetize.  Culture cannot be under-estimated.  If you have cultural supremacy where the battle takes place, you gain greatly increased anti-matter regeneration, which is critical for your Hoshikos.  Combined with a Kol suppressing strike craft, Hoshikos can keep cruisers and frigates from dealing too much damage while repairing what damage gets done.

wow, all this complicated stuff with fleet trickery or using 5+ cap ships with level 6 abilities. so complicated. the solution here is simple. BLOW THE CRAP OUT OF HIM WITH NOVALITHS.

just shore up your defensive perimeter with a nice big starbase and  make sure he can't break free. then spam some mega-cannons and take out all his planets so he loses the game.

Assuming this is not Entrenchment first of all. Second, spamming Novaliths would cost order of magnetutde more than couple cap ships.

Well, you can still turtle up against the AI in Vanilla.  It doesn't know better than to run head-first into a line of turrets supported by repair bays.

Anyways, Novaliths would work if you have the time, but you'd need about one per planet you want to bust, otherwise it's a game of whack-a-mole where they just keep recolonizing.

yeah but he said he controls like 65% of the galaxy. presumably money is no object and he can easily build like 10 Novaliths if he wanted to. seems obvious what to do.

I meant that in Entrenchment you can't win by Novaliths alone.  Between tradeports and starbase income you are in fine financial situation without planet population. And with starbase upgrade you will not lose the planet to super weapons.

yeah, you've got a good point. but its the AI so i'm just gonna assume novaliths work fine. AI never uses the interesting stuff. AI won't even build self-destruct with the Argonev. they generally don't know how to use SB's at all.

haha i dont have entrenchment. i didnt try with merzas but i have 2000 fleet cap. my exact fleet composition is 100 kodiaks 3 level 8 dunovs a level 9 and 10 kol a level 10 akkan and  60 hoshikos 60 gardas and 55 lrms. I think the main problem is most of my ships cant do anything because of his subverters. I definately have over doubly his ships produced by the time my economy has colapsed but he still has about 1200 ship slots used with vasari heavy cruisers whatever they are. its interesting to note that he never atacks my fleet he just sits there. and i cant send anything to the fleet GW because then it can never leave. i tried retreating a couple times with little success my ships never jumped. i managed to save about 30 kodiaks. everything else including the capitals got taken out.

if you don't have entrenchment then just nova the living $hit out of the AI. time will be on your side (quoted from the great Cykur), especially since your TEConomy should be going strong at this point. The AI won't build kosturas so stack the border worlds with defenses. culture will also take away his damage bonus. looking at your fleet composition, i noticed there weren't any carriers. you'll need carriers for this! also, did you have the chance to take him out? this doesn't always apply in online, but i think late-game vasari AI is deadliest AI, especially when generally uncontested early-mid game. play to TEC's strengths and you should be able to pull through.

well i stomped him good when he tried to cap a terran with 3 repairs and a bunch of factories =D this also made me buy entrenchment =p

Subverters in large numbers are insanely effective in large numbers.  I recently played against 6 unfair AIs on the map Maelstrom, which is currently my favorite map to play.  Vasari have a hard time dealing with kodiaks and hoshikos because the kodiaks can get right in your fleets face and blast away.  Then the hoshiskos repair everything and everything just goes to hell.  I finally built some subverters and my war with that TEC turned around completely.

You should check out the gravity well where the fleet is stationed and make sure to locate and destroy and phase jump inhibitors.  I don't think using the scouts time bomb will be particularly effective due to the phasic shielding that vasar structures get, so you'll have to do it the messy way with a fleet.  Also I hope you're using the most up to date version of SOASE.  Older versions (pre 1.05 I believe) allowed subverters to lock down even cap ships and that is very difficult to fight against when dealing with subverters in large numbers.  After that the best approach is get a bunch of marzas leveled up through attrition.

I'm assuming that you want to take this fleet head-on in a grand epic style space battle and not just win the map. If you wanted to just win, novalith cannons would be the best as has been previously suggested.

Try a large kamikaze squad of Arcovas to get his stabilizers, you can use Darvin's idea and send in 2 fleets, each having a bunch of Arcovas. Run in, blast the node, run when he shows up, have the other fleet blast the node by them.

Otherwise definitely Novaliths.

I've actually tried the arcova strategy before to try raiding against vasari AI.  You really need ALOT of them.  That phasic barrier thing really makes them alot less effective.  If you wanted to blow up one or two key buildings it might work, but blowing up buildings through out multiple planets definitely didn't work out for me.  Waiting for the barrier to wear off also isn't really an option if you want to get out of there before a fleet arrives.
