Kerry's diary troubles... oops, he met with (his words) "terrorists"

Diary Bombshell: Kerry Met With Terrorists

In a bombshell development that could have turned President Bush's victory into a landslide had it come out before the election, John Kerry wrote in his Vietnam War diary that he met with "terrorists" in Paris - a revelation that "flabbergasted" his running mate, John Edwards.

All during the campaign, Kerry had adamantly refused to release his diary, claiming that he'd given exclusive rights to use the document to his biographer, Douglas Brinkely. But when Brinkley told reporters that wasn't true, Kerry still declined to make the diary public.

Now we know why.

According to Newsweek magazine, "Kerry's diary included mention of a meeting with some North Vietnamese terrorists in Paris."

Though Kerry's sit-down with North Vietnamese representatives had been reported late in the campaign, his description of them as "terrorists" would have set off smoke alarms.

So if the diary isn't public, then how do these people know what it says? Sounds like another Kerry voted for taxes 350 times boondoggle.

Just because a person does not release the info to the general public, does not mean that it won't slip out.

A perfect example of this was the AAR on the events that lead to Kerry's Silver Star (You know the one that he tracked down and shot the badly wounded VC in the back while the VC was trying to find safty in a hut). Kerry refused to release the AARs for this battle(along with all the others). To his displeasure the AAR slipped out of the Navy records. It showed the he was the author of the AAR and that the AAR's account was much closer to the Swift Boat Vets account then the story that he has been telling.

Also Douglas Brinkely has in the past released some info about the diary. i.e. Kerry bragging in his diary that his crew had seen no combat or enemy activity during the week Kerry received his first Purple Heart.

It keeps sounding like Kerry's own words seem to have done more damage to him then the Republicians ever did.

I would like to see the link for this though.

That's My Two Cents

The link is already there, click on the text: Diary Bombshell: Kerry Met With Terrorists in my original post.

Granted the source is a known "right wing" news source, but the information is there.

You might try searching for additional sources of the same information, but then again, Kerry and his friends have done a pretty good job of keeping information from being widely disseminated when it was detrimental to him. For example, that AAR you mention (which I did see documented in some places, but not very many, and none which would be considered "main stream").

For more fun, try doing a search for "The New Soldier", or better, google for 'john kerry book new soldier' and get back a ton of nice results, including some direct quotes from Kerry's book.

Reading that information, and information like that in the linked article just add fuel to the fire for why Kerry didn't deserve to win this election.

Here's a more left wing source for the same basic materials: MSNBC article from Newsweek The article referenced through MSNBC is actually much, much better, and far more detailed. Worth a read from anyone. The article actually lends some credence to those that suspect Kerry's campaign was done in from the inside by the "Clintonista" crowd. Again, worth a read.

i wonder what nixon's 1968 campaign operatives (kissinger and dragonlady mddm chennault were directly involved as were others) wrote in their diaries after contacting and convincing the north vietnamese to withdraw from the paris negotations until after the election that year.  unlike kerry, they didnt want to bring the war to a quick end.  they did, however, promise to offer better terms than those the north seemed about to accept.  20,000 american lives later, the north DID get better terms from the nixon administration.
