Help with Advent economy.

I'm having a little trouble with the Advent's economy early game. Vasari has the salvage and resource boost. Tech has the mad credits thing. But with advent I seem to always be waaaay behind on the money front... any suggestions? Besides the rush to culture to boost the minerals?

and what about military early game? Tech has a tech 2 missle cruiser. Vassari has a tech 1 missle cruiser. and advent only has a tech 3 missle cruiser equivelent. so the other option is the tech 2 carrier, but they are soooo expensive! What should i do, mass those little crappy ships you get at the beggining?

5 carriers is equal to 10 bombers, you can also get a bunch of the light frigates early game, they are the cheapest of all the races light frigates.

Advent have arguably the weakest civilian technology tree when you only have two labs (although easy access to culture is nice, any map small enough to make that dangerous is too small to pursue civilian techs early on).  For me, I don't even touch the Advent civilian tech tree until I'm ready to put up three labs, then I go straight for trade ports.

Now, you have to remember that light frigates beat carriers, carriers beat long range frigates, and long range frigates beat light frigates.  If you build any one unit to the exclusion of the other two, you have a gaping weakness that your opponent can exploit.  Build disciples and long range frigates kill you; build carriers and light frigates kill you; build illuminators and carriers kill you; there's no getting away from it!  There is a holy grail unit that can deal with this conundrum: it's called a scout.  Look at what your opponent is doing and structure your own fleet accordingly.  If you see three labs go up and virtually no units, anticipate enemy carriers and buff up on disciples.  If you see long range frigates coming out, quickly get your own carriers up to speed.

Against the AI, you can almost never go wrong with just putting up three labs at the start of the game and researching illuminators, because it will predictably build light frigates for the early part of the game.

I never really thought about that 3 unit circle jerk thing... Scouts do seem to be the key, but they are also a lot of work, have to keep and eye on them... That is some very useful information... thank you very much for your time. It'll be nice to really play as the Advent against something more than normal AI...

You can beat an unfair AI in 1v1 just by building three labs and rushing with a bunch of illuminators lead by a mothership (don't upgrade your homeworld population infrastructure; spend all your starting cash on illuminators).  Try it.

i tend to go for 2 straight away when im playing pcs

need the colonization techs for a planet grab rush

as far as military is concerned the advent def. vessal isnt half bad against the basic stuff that guards free planets

light carriers is a bad idea because youll have to up fleet supply to soon and take a hit to your econmy
