Fix for "Your mesh files differ from the host".

If get the message that your meshes don't match when you try to join a mutiplayer game ("Your mesh files differ from the host"), you may need to uninstall, delete your Sins folder entirely (do this manually!) and reinstall.

A quicker alternative that may work in *some* cases is to just delete the following files from your regular Sins Mesh folder (not the Entrenchment Mesh folder).

SupportShip_PsiGunship.mesh
SupportShip_PsiDecoyFighter.mesh
SupportShip_PhaseGunship.mesh

These are located in something like the following:

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mesh

I tried this fix and it didnt work for me :\.  I have uninstalled the game and manually deleted the sins folders (ALL OF IT) and am now re-downloading sins (and entrench) and installing to see how it goes.

Had this same problem and was afraid of this.

Second time I'm having to download the whole thing since the Beta.

On a side note, Why have a forum 'search' if you can't even show me anything on 'mesh' unless I'm actually staring at it.

It's in the header FFS...

Here's my question: once I uninstall entrenchment, how do I reinstall? Will impulse let me do it again? I'm too scared that I'll have to pay all over again. With original Sins, I can just put the disk back in...

You will not have to pay again.  I've had to reformat both of my computers in the past few months, switched both over to Windows 7 (one twice: 32 bit and 64 bit), and also updated the beta numous times.  Also, I had to uninstall/reinstall to fix a few glitches.  So all-in-all, I've probably reinstalled both vanilla Sins and Entrenchment about a dozen times each from Impulse.

You'll be fine.  Impulse is very forgiving.

So be it. My problem is the next: I tried both of options but it didn't work. In the 2nd option the game will be crashed. The question is, have any diferences between the retial dvd and the digital sins? if have is this the source of the problem?? I have the retial dvd(EU version by kalypso).

Sorry for my bad english!

Thanks for the help!!

If none of those worked, zip up your Mesh folder and email it to [email protected] so they can take a look.

I will not be buying Entrenchment myself unless I find it in a store.   I just spent the last 6 months living somewhere that internet access was not available  (and yes right here in the good ole U.S.A).   In essence anything I would buy via Impulse I would not be able to use, play or access because of no internet capability.

I will not buy any software that I cannot have copy of for future use and installs.  Being tied to the requirement of having internet to access software I purchased is not an option for me.   Not to mention the time you now have to wait to download something each and every time you want to install and play.  Either you are lucky to have a T1 line or do not mind waiting days like slow speed connection users have to.

As long as titles are released on DVD, I will still buy and play but any companies now moving toward online purchase and install only for titles, are loosing my business.... and I know for a fact I am not the only person who agrees with this...

It stinks I have to make this decision but I refuse to be forced to have internet access.   And when I buy something, I expect to be able to use it whenever and where I want.   Could you imagine any other product line doing this?  Let's see you just bought a new TV but you have to go get it from the store each time you want to turn it on... or perhaps you just bought a new bed.  If you want to sleep on it after moving you have to go back to the original store every time and take it home....  extreme examples but you get the idea...    Sins is an awesome game to be sure.  But only on DVD will I buy it or any expansions.

So you won't be buying it... You're loss.

Especially since you could download it and archive your install.....  8C

I thought impulse was required to install later on if you changes computers, drives etc?     GamersGate is that way I found out the hard way.  Bought a title from them and now after replacing a hard drive, I have no access to get the games I purchased.   'Sorry but that is the way our system works' was the response.

Many posts I have seen here talk about having to re-download to re-install... especially patches.   So is this not the case?  can you download the full game and patches and save them for future installation offline if needed?

You can take archives. They are OS specific however. You can also do a download archive option which is not OS specific I believe...

Hmmm.... any chance the problem will be fixed with a patch? The files you mention in the second option I do not have... in either mesh folder. I would rather not uninstall and wipe and reinstall everything from scratch but if I must...

Found my own answer.

There is also a MUCH easier way to fix this WITHOUT having to erase everything. Both you and your friends who you cannot connect with need to go into your Sins directory and get into the Mesh folder. Select all of it and check the file count. If your file counts differ, then simply send whoever has the lesser number the complete Mesh folder. Since you both now have all the files it'll work fine. For example, if you have 346 files and your friend has 317, GIVE HIM/HER YOUR MESH FOLDER! This will save a ton of time and trouble with the benefits of not having to uninstall or reinstall a thing. I donn't know if 346 is the complete folder, but it's what our larger number was.

I had the DVD version of SoaSe + Entrenchment and kept running into this error. At first I uninstalled everything, deleted everything, re-installed SoaSe from DVD again, then updated it through Impulse. Man, that took a loooong time, but alas, no luck. Still this annoying error.

Then I tried to delete the three files mentioned by Blair Fraser. No luck again.

Then I tried deleting my Mesh folder and copying over my mates Mesh-Folder. Still no go.

I finally fixed it by re-installing SoaSe + Entrenchment from Impulse Anywhere (http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com). Another advantage was that I didn't have to update; the installation-files from Impulse Anywhere are the newest version (Sins 1.16 and Entrenchment 1.02).

Hope that helps those people that had no luck so far.

Cheers

here´s a little experience i made. it took me nearly 2 hours before i realized what exactly went "wrong" XO

i´ll share with you so hopefully you won´t make the same mistake.

in the end, it worked for me to simply delete the 3 mentioned files, BUT:

at first, i cut them out and put them into a new sub folder in the mesh folder (named somewhat like .. "old mesh" or so - i admit, i´m a careful person, so i didn´t just want to delete them. plus, i slightly altered the files´ names so the game would in case not recognize them). it did not work like this, the error stayed the same.

apparently, the game in fact simply counts the amount of files in that mesh folder - of course, the number had stayed the same in the upper case.

so i simply cut out the sub folder containing the 3 files and put in on the desktop . badabing, worked perfectly :)

so, in the end: if you do not delete, but only place the files somewhere else, be sure it is NOT in the mesh folder or any sub folder of it.

hope that helps, gl hf @ all

IIRC, some files get checked to make sure they are the same, some are just checked to make sure they exist to prevent desync. This allows pp to apply graphic mods and still play MP.  You just ran into this issue. Good explanation though.

This isn't working. The files were never in my mesh folder to begin with so I could not perform the quick fix, I have uninstalled and reinstalled now 3 times, ensureing the folder was deleted and there were no registry entrys left over. Is there anything else to make this work?

Will this work for Entrechment? cuz thats what im having problems with.

Good day to you.

None of the above solutions have worked for me. Let me break it down:

  • I have windows XP.
  • I have reinstalled a number of times.
  • I have tried overwriting my mesh folder with a friends mesh folder. His works, mine doesn't.
  • I have attempted to delete registry data
  • The version i am running is SoaSE:Trinity, and I have installed the Trinity v1.01 patch.
  • I have previously owned a copy of SoaSE vanilla, but never patched. As far as i know it was completely uninstalled.
  • I have latest DirectX drivers and gfx card drivers.
  • The game works fine in single player, but i can not host or join multi player games.
If you have any ideas, please let me know. I have contacted tech support as well but it takes time for them to get to me so i thought i would try my luck here.

I have since found a fix thanks to the help of the folks at technical support.

A solution to my problem, posted above:

Uninstall the game, and make sure you shift+delete the game folder from the install dir.
Furthermore, delete your game settings from:

  • Windows 7: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting
  • Vista: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting
  • XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting
Do not install from your CD. Download a copy of your game from Impulse. It will download patch and install it all for you. It definitely worked for me, when nothing else did. Be sure to try this method if you are stuck.
Anyway, hope that helps anyone with future problems.

I have been seeing numerous people complain about this problem.  Does it have something to do with the retail version of Trinity?  I sure hope that this can be fixxed via an Impulse patch soon.
