CursorFX - mouse is hiding?

(I realize mice are good at hiding, but this one doesn't need to be afraid of the cat)

Hello everyone!

Using the free version of CursorFX:

As the title says, the cursor hides - for example, when I try to mouse over a Yahoo Widget (konfabulator widget), or if I have Avast! set to use translucent effects, the mouse hides behind the window, and then pulls the buttons from behind to activate them. Makes it tricky. I turned off the transparent effect in Avast! but the konfabulator widget thing is annoying.

Seems to be related to transparency in the applications windows (yes yes, Captain Obvious has spoken, I know).

I have XP SP3 on an ancient Shuttle P4 system with an AGP Radeon x1950 using ATI Catalyst driver package version 8.5 (Catalyst version 08.6).

Any known workaround to such issues? I've been working as a systems analyst for ~19 years now, so don't be shy about suggesting registry tweaks or using a cattle prod on the system or something.

Oh and by the way, why did it take so long for you wizards at Stardock to come up with Fences? I've been using less than stellar solutions for years now, Fences is absolutely the best implementation for this concept I've come across!!!

Mine does it all the time, hides behind Widgets and what not, then after a reboot, it's all ok again, don't know why it happens hon, it just does. :)

 

Someone else should be able to give you a more detailed answer hehe

try doing the CTRL + Shift + C and again CTRL + Shift + C by doing that cursorfx should go to defoult system theme and then back to the theme you have.., that should do the job, if not.., ask Babybulma ;)

Happens here too (XP Pro, SP3) after spouse (couldn't possibly be me -- oh, no -- that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) plays games.  Answer here is as Tallsgirl said - reboot fixes all....

Sadness because for me the problem survives a reboot, and the ctrl+shift+c trick doesn't work. <X3

It's not bothersome enough to abandon all hope. I suppose alpha blending isn't a core part of XP, so some oddities are to be expected.

 

Lets just blame konfabulator, I don't think the Stardock crew could possibly do any wrong. Yeah, it's those Yahoos that did it!

I suppose alpha blending isn't a core part of XP, so some oddities are to be expected.

 

 

It is a Windows bug/issue with how XP handles alpha layers, they  ( MS ) know about the issue but have no plans to fix it.

Cavan1 is absolutely right here.  Happens with any of our apps that use alpha blending, be it in a skin, gadget, cursor or whatever.

My problem is a little bit different. When I try to use the free version of Cursor FX my cursor completely disappears. If I'm lucky I can log off and that solves the problem, but MANY times I just have to do a cold reboot which I know is not good for my computer. Does this also happen in the paid version? BTW, it never happened with Cursor XP but that's no longer available.

Does this happen with any cursor you use?  If so, try uninstalling CursorFX, rebooting, and reinstalling from a newly downloaded installer.  If it happens for one specific cursor, try downloading a new copy of just that cursor file.

Agreed. This is an xp problem. This does not happen in Vista.

Sometimes this will fix the problem...

Just log off windows and back in again. A restart just puts you back where it started! For some good reason I blame it on the machine too. Being it has not loaded properly to use Windows correctly. Thus we blame Windows for the problem. So logout and then back in and see... This has fixed it in the past. But as everyone has seen or heard here already "it is a XP bug and not CursorFX!"
