computer problems (resolved)

i bought warhammer dow 2 and my computer is top of the line, more then compatable with the game, and for some reason after about 10-30min into a game not only does the game shut down but so does my whole computer, that also happens to happen to me when i play nwn2 now i know my computer isnt too advanced for those games cause i can play sins which the system requirements is lower then that of warhammer.  so what could be the problem? and more then that why does it not just shut down my game, but instead it shuts off my whole computer, never had that happen to me till i bought this computer.  this computer is about 5 months old and its a labtop. now the warhammer game says it needs 3.2 GHz and i only have 2.50 but it says or any dual core processor and i have a Duo so it should work right?  here is what my computer got and is capable of.

model: xps M1530

processor: intel(R) core(TM) Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.50GHz 2.50GHZ

memory (RAM): 4.00 GB

system type: 32-bit OS

Windows vista

video card:  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

let me know your thoughts on the matter thx.

I like how this has become something of a DoW forum considering the number of topics on it.  I guess its really popular with this community. ^_^

Does it give any sort of blue screen or indication that it is about to happen?  just shutting down could by anything from a power issue (if your power supply isn't able to handle the high-video) to a motherboard problem.

nope no blue screen. it goes from playing the game straight to black screen.  shuts the computer right down during the game.  no error messages or anything.

If it is a labtop you probably have the fan blocked. If your cpu gets to hot the whole thing will shut off. My labtop has the fan on left corner so I just put books or something under it. Hope this helps.

actually thats good advice cause it does tend to get really hot.  but the only thing about that is that for warhammer dow 2 it has shut itself off now 4 times and nvn2 i couldnt tell u how many times it shuts off for that game when a movie clip comes up, and the funny thing about nvn2 is cause its the same  movie clip that it always shuts off too, i got past it one time so far and thats bacause i puased and unpaused it countless times but now it shuts down at a different movie clip but i have stopped playing that game. dow2 tho i really wanna play so im def looking for a solution, and i play every game out there and never have the problem it just seems like those 2 games so it kinda leads me to believe it might be alittle more then the fan getting blocked but i just ordered a fan/cooling pad for underniether my computer to see if that helps.

Try updating your BIOS as well. If that (and the cooling pad) doesn't work, you might want to consider sending your notebook in for a replacement. A number of G84M and G86M-based GPUs have been revealed to be defective.

Ya, make sure it stays cool. We have a computer here which had a CPU which got all dusty... Then it would frequently heat up to around 75-80C, on a CPU meant to be no hotter than around 65C. It would shut off without warning frequently. So make sure you have a good enough cooling system and that it is dust free. Because as we all know... DUST = BAD

There's your problem.  It's a dell and it has the 8600 card in it.  Call up Dell and ask them to replace.  This series is known to be defective.

EDIT:  Looks like I am late to the party...
