Hey everyone.. I just bought a new computer and decided to pick this game up because it looked interesting.. I haven't play it yet and will be looking forward to meeting some of you on the online.
That's great! Welcome to the online multiplayer community. I do suggest playing single player for about two weeks first, though, at least before playing against other people. Note that you could come online and play comp stomps--humans v. AI; that would let you chat with other folks and give you some human teammates (more fun IMHO). It would be a good idea to try to learn about all three races and to play each one in two or three long games (so that you get to ponder the entire technology tree).

If you're into RTS then you'll probably fall in love with sins. I don't know any RTS's with a better interface and I don't know any other RTS games that will keep you up until sunrise the next day 
Welcome!!!! Yes you will spend many of a long dark night in dark cold space. Bring lots of space heateres, the ships tend to leak atmosphere after a couple shots.
