What's up with this?

ads ads ads..

I noticed recently that I was getting a busy cursor for a lot longer when pages were loaading on WC.

Didn't take much sleuthing to realize that it was apparent ad info from googleads and adscentral that is now causing this.

Perhaps I've just been sleepsurfing for years and never noticed this but I'm pretty sure that this is a fairly recent change.

If it was happening before, the delay at least seems much longer now.

The more I surf on WC the more annoying it is becoming to me... Shouldn't WC subscribers be 'immune' to this?

not much worse than a busy state cursor when your trying to navigate. :waaaa:

Yep, constant Ads for me to, I've seen it posted that it's a cache thing, but it isn't.. [I'm a delete freak hehehe, I am constantly clearing my cacheXD ]  as it's always happened to me.. before and after Subscribing.. nothing has changed.X|

Doesn't really bother me all that much, it's just that my lame ass ADSL is slow enough these days.

adblock wont install for me, keeps erroring out in FF... plus isn't for IE.. so so much for that.

Adblock plus did.. but it didnt help anything... besides.. shouldnt have to run 3rd party plugins imo.

I believe that the benefit to subscribers is that you won't see the ads.  ;)

Actually, figured out adblock plus.. google and adcentral scripts now blocked.

Thanks for the tip Bebi |-)

I use adblock plus too, I block just about everything. You need to add filters to block stuff, that's probably why it hasn't helped anything. -Ha too late, got you got it worked out.

We are subscribers...but I still block *everything.* :ninja:

The ad issues will hopefully be resolved in the new WC that's being worked on currently.

Yay for adblock.

Thanks Bebi, it has made things faster. The main forum page still takes way to long to load, for me it is 10 - 15 seconds on a 5 meg ADSL.

Although my favorite is still when for no apparent reasons the whole site just goes dead for awhile.

Hey Zoomba, will download rates from the WC galleries improve. See this thread.

Download speeds aren't a function of the website persay, more of our ISP.  Efforts are being made separately to improve that.

Good to hear.

Hey Zoomba, since I don't know if you read my thread, the WC galleries are the only place I get slow downloads, everywhere else Stardock ( subscriber resources page, Impulse, SDC etc ) and the rest of the web downloads are at normal speeds as they should be for my service.

Those are all coming off of different servers and different data centers.  The download servers for WinCustomize are the hardest hit file servers we have.  Many many gigabytes per day are pulled from those systems.  Because they're hit so hard, the higher the volume, the slower the transfer for individual users.  We're doing some server and data center reshuffling in the near future, and that will hopefully help things considerably.

Switching from my ISPs DNS to OpenDNS improved browsing speed for me considerably... It doesn't solve issues with downloadspeed or stalling ad servers, but all gains are good. :)

Yes, but when?

Chrome too can be dressed. But then, its beautiful without them.

Internet Explorer is skinned whenever a person uses Windowblinds.  I've had  IE dressed for over a year now, 24/7.  I'd venture a guess a good majority of the posters of this forum have Windowblinds installed and IE skinned.

I beg to differ.  Some people attempted to "dress" Chrome, and when Chrome first came out, I tried it, participated in the forums, and downloaded the skins for Chrome -- they were buggy as hell, crashed the browser at least once a day, and any time I downloaded new skins I had to uninstall Chrome and then reinstall it, along with the little funky program to skin it --HUGE PITA!

I suppose you might think Chrome is beautiful without a skin, but I'm not a fan of plain blue file folders.  If I was, I would spend most of free time staring into my file cabinet, instead of engrossed in Photoshop and Skin Studio 6, skinning Windowblinds, brushing off the kids, the pets, and the husband, totally high on my own creation.

i have been lucky, ever since i subscribed i have never seen ad's

as for chrome, don't like it, don't use it and never will. Maxthon browser for me so basically IE8 but a lot faster and with speed dial like opera the pages load in a flash.
