Marvelous1967, there are lots of hard working folks from all political leanings, left and right. While I might disagree with many of the policies the liberals here on JU subscribe to, I don't think for a minute that they are anti-American or don't want what they think is best for the nation. Your reasons for voting for Obama are interesting, it seemed like more against the Republicans than for Obama (so glad you didn't mention "change" or "hope").
1) I respect John McCain for his service during Nam and actually like him (read his book before he ran, etc.) but I really felt that he was out of touch with what was going on with the economy. He said that the economy was strong 3 months before it fell apart.
Good point, but what makes you believe Obama knew better? He only spent half a term as Senator before running. He's not an economist. In fact he has now abandoned or postponed many of his tax proposals since entering office. Why? Because all presidents have advisor's, they don't think about these things on their own. Would you trust any of them with your money?
2) Sarah Palin: wow--she could have been next in line for prez! Once again, I like her--I like that she had her baby instead of aborting it, I like that she hunts, I thought her husband was cool but quite frankly, I don't think she had the brains to run this country.
And you sleep better at night knowing Biden is next in line? Enough said.
All in all, Obama has been handed a big plate of shit and people are going to blame him if his breath smells like shit 4 years from now--a plate that good ole G.W. Bush and D. Cheney (and Alan Greenspan if you want to get realistic) created and handed to him.
So there were no Democrats in government the last eight years? I can't speak for you but the economy seemed pretty good before the Dem's gained power in congress in 2006. Weren't Frank (D) and Dodd (D) key players in the housing sub-prime crisis which supposedly set off our recent troubles? Obama was a Senator during all this, so he inherited only what he himself is complicit in. Where was his voice of warning then? Or did he not want to out his political buddies? Care to explain how Bush and Cheney created the problem?
I voted for bush because I felt "safer" with him being prez but quite frankly, right now the economy is what is important--more important than abortion, gay marriage, terrorists, etc, etc.
Do you feel safer now? I don't. I agree completely with your list (with the exception of terrorism). So if the economy is so important, why was re-establishing the funding for organizations providing abortions one of the first acts of the Obama administration? Why was one the first statements by the Obama press secretary concerning the abolishment of the military policy on gays? Unless you are unaware of what is happening on the sidelines, as a reader of your post, I would say he has not lived up to your expectations.
