Thoughts on President Obama's news conference
I'd be hard pressed to detail any one issue or point that President Obama talked about in his news conference this evening, but at the same time, I would have to say that President Obama shows a mastery of the news conference format that hasn't been shown in a while. I'd swear that I recently saw an article here that used the title/headline 'Great Communicator', a term that previously was used for President Ronald Reagan. It is a bit early in the game to bestow that label on President Obama, but I can't say I wouldn't be tempted to acknowledge the possibility of the label fitting.
President Obama proved how adept he is at dealing with the public via the television cameras back during his campaign, and I really don't expect that we'll find that mastery slipping away as his presidency continues. President Obama talks in a manner that is easy to follow and seems to be telling us what we need to know.
There's the question of whether he's telling us what we want to hear, or what we need to hear, but even in that area he has promised to tell us the truth no matter how ugly it might be. Lord knows there's a lot of hard truths that are going to have to be communicated to the citizens of the U.S.A. in the near future. I'm sure a few white lies might slip into the conversation along the way, or perhaps they're just going to be slight exaggerations, but that happens with just about anyone that is trying to get what they want from someone or a group of someones. Hopefully the transparency that has been promised will be there.
