Game Crashes To Desktop

I appologize if someone has covered this issue before.  I browsed through the forums before i decided to post this, as I could not find my issue.

I have a Quad q8200, with 8gb of (I think) DDR2, GeForce 9500 GS, with Realtek High Definition Audio.  All of the drivers are current.

What happens with me is whenever I start the game, it almost immediately minimizes the window amd brings me to my desktop.  There are rare occasions where it does not do this.  Seemingly after rebooting, it will play fine once.

I'm very new to this game, so I only really have gotten to play it twice (on one game).

Has anyone run into this before?

Also, I have the latest patch for the game:  1.13.043.

Help?!

Are you trying to boot a mod? most mods do not work with the new version.

Do you have entrenchment. If so, the models are not optimized in the 2.0 and less beta (not sure about 2.5). This can cause crashes and can be fixed by turning down the graphics.

If it is neither of these, i do not know, your setup is more than sufficient. It is possible that the install or update was corrupted and it needs to be reinstalled. However, wait for more input before taking drastic measures.

Try opening in windowed mode

No, just the retail copy.  Nothing special.

I do not have Entrenchment.

Is it possible to adjust game settings (turning down the graphics) without running the actual game?

How do you do that?
Edit the user.setting file

Oi.

This file is located at:

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting

Please note these directories may be Hidden by default. To unhide them, go to your Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

Thanks, that worked for me, as I just had the same problem and edited it to be windowed. Now its working perfect.

Its weird, this all started when I downloaded upgrade 1.15, and I just tried the windowing and it worked after multiple re-installs. But then I re-downloaded 1.15, and it did it again, blacking out and minimizing to the desktop. I windowed it again and its fine.

I've got an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400, a GeForce GTX260 896MB video card, 4G of memory, a 1TB harddrive, and a nVidia 780i motherboard running Vista 32bit.  Shouldn't this setup be able to play sins without any trouble?

Well, not related, but you can only use about 2.8GB of your ram right?
All intel cpu since Core and on are 64 bit.

32bit limit, unless if you are using a server board...

Sins can run on my 1.8GHz Centrino Duo (the first gen dual cores - 32bit) with 2gb ram... and wait for it... a GMA 950!!!

It runs fine (with good settings, too...)

Typically, screwing around with the nVidia control panel settings gets many errors like this.
