Random mob encounters

Has there been any talk about random mob encounters when your walking around on the map? I'm sure we'll see em in temples/tombs/dungeons (MOM) but I dont recall hearing anything about them being outside. I think it would def help with the immersion factor as long as it wasnt overkill. I apologized if this has been discussed before. But I get a free pass as the searh button isnt working yet :)

I'd imagine we will have those random murauding monsters like in MoM.  You know, where a monster lair that hasn't been cleared might spawn a monster from time to time that will head towards whatever tasty city is ripe for the razing.   Sometimes they burn the towns to the ground, but sometimes they just loot, destroy some buildings, kill a few thousand inhabitants, and then vanish into the night.

I'm really interested to hear about the temples/tombs/dungeons, since its been inplied that it will be more like X-com or the original fallout when it comes to exploring tombs (rather than a regular battlefield with a simple 'lair' or 'temple' doo-dat on the enemy side)

@ Land....I didnt know they were talking about explorable "inside" areas!!! How cool is that? Just another awesome thing this game is promising us!

Wandering monsters seem like a must-have to me. They were fun in MoM and around the D&D table.

Capn, re the searching thing, you can add site:forums.elementalgame.com to the end of a search string at any good search engine and get hits only from this forum. That parameter is still one of the 10 most useful things I learned in the last 10 years.

I just started playing MOM and didnt see em in there. Of course, my first game was like 20 minutes because I was overwhelmed... I have to read up the manual. But it makes feel better that MOM had it.

GW, thanks for the google tip. That will be a complete time saver!!! :) +1 Karma for you

yeah, you must not have played for very long.

They also are prone to appear at the least oppurtune time, like when you have a city with nobody on it to be protected *BAMPH* a deamon attacks.   That isn't entirely true, but that is how it feels because it happens (also because demons move by 'flying' so they shoot over water and similar places where you don't expect, so you THINK its safe until something comes from the sea.  Also, deamons are tough and usually can't be stopped by the 1 spearman I sent to protect the town from other random monsters.

I figure this game would have settings for it, like how tha barbiarans and neutral animals had settings Civilization 4.

How cool would it be to be crawling a dungeon and run into your opponents (AI or human) in there looking for the same artifact you are! Battles in dungeons!

That would be pretty awesome. I'm pretty sure that could happen unless of course the "inside" areas are instanced.

A nice good old dungeon crawl is alway welcome.

I can imagine a trying to get out of it because one of your cities is under attack and you keep getting bogged down by wondering monsters or better yet you get lost in the dungeon because it's magical and the wwall actually move. :p
