The DesktopX Gadget Request and Discussion Thread

Now this wouldn't be a very fancy gadget but it could prove to be of use to those of us that are not skinners or anyone.

How about a Banner Gadget, one that allows you to put a banner on your desktop without having to use a graphics program (Paint.net, GIMP etc) and modify someones wall.  I'm doing Suites right now using Theme Manager and it would be nice to have a banner show in the desktop screenshot with the name of the Theme being used.

RomanDA has a very nice Holiday Countdown Gadget that could serve as the example, have some built in banners of different sizes and shapes and skins with control over font, font size and font color, maybe even background color.  If possible use another gadget, Rainbow Clock 1.0 by Vad_M to use how he gets the WB Theme you are using.  Maybe even be able to have multiple banners on the desktop and be able to move them independently of each other.

Like I said, nothing fancy but it could be usefull.

EDIT:  Moving text from right to left would make this very interesting also.

Interesting, Philly.  A simple DesktopX.Form could handle all the font/text options. There's a plugin for scrolling text. I'm sure a resizing option would be useful and the ability to use your own graphics. Not sure, though, how DA stored all the images in his Countdown Gadget, but this definitely sounds doable.

Nice to hear that you think it is doable.  Now it's a wait and see if anyone takes a shot at trying to do it.  Hope so.

Thanks Bilbo! I've already got the Radar widget version. I'd like to see it or an "improved" version as a Gadget. It's workable but not very configurable. It forgets my location after each use.

Hey, philly. Yesterday I was thinking that this banner idea would be great to use for screen annotations on screen capture recording, too.

I started thinking and tinkering around and so far my concept is thus:

Main Functions:

-Configure

-Clone

-Delete

Popup Configuration Menu:

-Text/Font settings

-Resize option

-Banner Image settings

-Image margins

Spent a couple of minutes tinkering yesterday and got as far as cloning. Deletion is giving me headaches so I'll just skip that and try the configuration menu.

I have no skining or coding skill or talent, but when it gets to the point of testing keep me in mind.  I'm on an XP Home, 32 bit system.

Oh did I say thank you yet?

Possibilities:
