For Saving 1.12 to separate drive, can i create a different mod path for 1.12?

Hi,

          I have 1.12 on my computer now, and wanted to get the new update and the new beta. Can i save c:\...\stardockgames\ to d: and then update?  if so, how do i make a new mod path for the 1.12 version? Or do all mods 1.12 and the beta have to be in the same place?

Sorry for so many questions, but i thought if i asked now, i could avoid not getting it right when i copy it and try to play the old mods for 1.12.
