Testing... 1,2,3... Windows 7

A couple of weeks ago I installed Windows 7 (64 bits) to test it out... it was a bit harsh start but now is working just fine.

After getting it to load the drivers of my MB and multimedia devices I decided to give a try to SD sotware I am fond with under Vista... so it was time to test IconPackager. I haven't found any real tough problems since I have been able to install it and apply several IP Packages with no huge problems.

So far this is the issues I have found:

  • After applying an IP Package, the shortcut overlay got messed, it is being shown at "Icons & Cursors"->"Others" but shortcuts in explorer now show a small folder icon (whatever icon is configured at the IP) instead of the IP shortcut overlay.
  • Int the "Control Pannel" tab (Home section) , all icons are gone, the items show, but no icons are.

So long that's what I found, are anybody out there experimenting with IP & Windows 7?

I installed the trial version but even run as admin, I can't get it to change any icons.  The program will load the icon set but when I apply it the icons on the desktop will flash but they don't change.  I'm running build 7057 x86.

IconPackager hasn't been updated for Windows 7 yet, so you still will probably see some weirdness until updates are released.  So far in my own experience it works OK, although I do run into the shortcut overlay issue (I believe last time my shortcut overlay was actually getting set to the 'Documents' icon, which looked hilarious).  If you're worried about issues, I'd say it's best to leave it alone for now.

I installed Iconpackager in Win 7 x64 and, while it applies the icon sets just fine, I do not get a preview of my installed icon sets in the preview area.  It's no biggie, though.  I'm familiar with most icon sets I have... and it's just a bit of trial and error for those I'm not.

:)

UPDATE:

Iconpackager does not install in the RC edition.... Impulse now says it incompatible with the current OS.

Oh Well... patience is a virtue.  I can wait> :)

Just curious.....if you have no issues whatsoever.....do you really need to update?

You guys got off easy. IP seems to have replaced my icon arrows with these wierd little black boxes with a little flower design on them. I've run 'restore defaults', change icons, and even uninstalled the program. I'm guessing theres something stuck in my Registry somewhere.

Guess all I can do at this point is wait for the Win7 update to come out so I can use the 'restore' button. :p

I'm running w7x64. I simply get the 'incompatible with my system' error message. It's killing me not to be using Aero Midnight icons! X-(

Any word on when it'll work with 64-bit w7? :d

IconPackager 5 beta should now be out that adds Windows 7 support.
