Windows 7 Beta Issues

Create -> Browse does not work

When I run LogonStudio In Windows 7, I can get to the UI, but when I click create, and then browse for image, it does not bring up file browse dialog. Same happens when I click Load.

I am running x64 version.

I love the ability to change the logon screen on the fly and use it on Vista daily. It'd be great if I can get the functionality back in Windows 7.

Thanks,

Bhargav

From the Stardock Page:

System Requirements

●Windows XP for XP edition
●Minimum screen resolution: 1024 width and 768 height
●Windows Vista 32-bit/64-bit for Vista edition
●10MB free drive space
●512MB RAM

It doesn't seem that LogonStudio supports Windows 7......yet

Of course I can be totally wrong and it should work! O:)

Give it time, Windows 7 is just in the first beta phase.  As it gets closer to regular public release Stardock will have had time to make compatibility updates.

You have to remember Windows 7 is still an early beta, so applications are not going to be fully compatible unless noted otherwise.

I have logon studio working(kinda) in windows 7. If you download a vista logon background it will apply but you can't create one yourself. A possible workaround is have someone(or yourself) create the background in vista and just download it to windows 7. I'm just not sure where it stores the backgrounds you create but they are named *.logonvista so you could just search for it. Lucky for me I had my old one saved in my pictures.

I have a few programs that won't browse for files. I'm assuming it should be an easy fix because most other programs work fine. It probably just comes down to how the program calls up file explorer.

We've got a version with compatibility for Windows 7 in internal testing. The specific problem mentioned here is fixed, but things are actively changing so I am not sure exactly when it will be released (we already had to do a tweak for the latest beta).

As noted, dragging and dropping images onto LogonStudio works around this problem. You can also drag them off LogonStudio onto the desktop or a folder to create a .logonvista file.

Microsoft's new method is very convenient for OEMs, but the 256kb limit is a showstopper for arbitrary images. I understand why they did that; still, many of the wallpapers they ship with are close to 2Mb for a reason. If you cut them down to 1/8 the data, you get visible artifacts. It may work for some images, for some people, but if you've got 1920x1200 screen with a high-detail or high-contrast image you're going to notice the difference.

LS Vista version 1.0.0
1.5 is available on Impulse.  That's teh ticket!

Can the main download be updated with 1.5 please?  I don't like having to install a piece of software (Impulse) just to get another piece of software that happens to be free.

Thank you.

All of our installers are migrating to an Impulse base for updates.

The version of LogonStudio for Vista will work in Windows 7!!!!!

I installed it and COULD NOT get the CREATE button to work at first.

All that you need to do is right-click on the shorcut for LogonStudio Vista on the desktop and pick properties.

Choose the Compatibility Tab,  check the box to "Run this program in Compatibility mode"

and Choose "WINDOWS SERVER 2003 (SERVICE PACK 1)" and click on OK

The CREATE button now works like a champ!

Let this forum know if it works for you.
