Posting a dock icon

After 2 years of asking people for their stuff, I finally want to contribute. I want to  upload a dock icon I made and it asks me about a .dockzip file, what is that and where do i get it. Please help

They mean to just put your dock icon in a zip file, and then upload it. :)

  if you right click anywhere on a dock you have up you should see an option that says "package image for sharing" click it...it'll then bring you to a window to drop your icon into....if you just want one icon...i suggest you make a seperate folder for it and put it in that folder before you drag it into the window because OD likes to take the whole folder of the image so make sure there is only the image you want in the folder you drag into the window.....CLEAR ENOUGH ? any ?'s post in here agin ill try to wxplain better

if you right click anywhere on a dock you have up you should see an option that says "package image for sharing"

Actually, you would right-click, then select "This Dock", then "package images for sharing." Even easier, though is to click on the "configure dock" icon, and go here:

After navigating to the "themes" tab and choosing "package files," then you should see this screen:

Simply name your skin (whether it be icons or dock backgrounds, etc.) and add your files. When you press the "create package!" button, it will automatically generate a dockzip file.

Good luck! ;)

what is that

Oh yeah... a dockzip is basically a compressed zipped folder containing your OD skins. The only differences are that 1) it is created by ObjectDock, and 2) they are designed to automatically save downloaded skins into the "Stardock/Objectdock" folder inside of "My Documents."

He asked about dockzip files... ;P

But either .zip or .dockzip will do.

Armani, don't get too hung up on it, .zip will work fine if you don't want to mess with packaging it up in OD.

He asked about dockzip files...

Yeah, well I've made single icons for docks :meow: , and added them to a .zip file, as I don't have OD.. so I thought I'd ask... because he doesn't need to go to all that trouble if he's just uploading a single icon for use.  and possibly.. he may only want to upload a single icon, and the term .dockzip confused him... when he only needs [win]zip.

Agreed. And I was addressing his question.

The peripheral hints and comments, though helpful, did not address his question.

as I don't have OD..

WHAAAT!! :ninja:

armani, is it a single icon you've made, or an entire set? :)

Ok hon, then do what I originally said|-) , just zip that icon up, and submit it, make sure it goes in the right category, and is the right icon size, and that's all there is to you!

that should be it man....i thought that they changed it or something so that you had to do it in a dockzip but i must be wrong...sorry to confuse you Armani:-"   but if you look at mirsguy screenshots up top and just follow those that it. and tailsgirl...you should give the ol' object dock a try...you'll probably fall in love with it

Seems I might have addressed his question semi-correctly after all. :)

Well buddy, good luck with it.:meow:

jojo, I have NO doubt OD is awesome,  I love Stardock and it's products, I am mostly a DesktopX person, and I've been using another Dock for years that I'm confortable with, so no need for me to change, I'm in my comfort zone with what I have now. :)

Armani: First, you want to choose the "submit to gallery" link in your nav bar on the WC website:

When you see the following screen, in the skin file field, you can browse to load EITHER a .zip or a .dockzip.

As stated before, .dockzip's are beneficial as they automatically save the skins/icons into the ObjectDock folder. But zipped folders are okay, too. When a user downloads a zipped folder, they have to unzip it and save the icon into the proper folder themselves.
