Warning! Warning! Danger Will Robinson! The respite and break from what used to be a fairly regular amount of Political blogging from the writer you are currently reading content from may soon be over.
I've been busy with work, less than inspired on topics to write or make observations about, or otherwise distracted from writing much here at JU, but as our new President begins his honeymoon period and we enter this 'new era of optimism' (as ordained by the main stream media) readers are likely to find I'm not in the mood for a honeymoon, and not very likely to be all that optimistic.
As the talkin' head that is yammering in the background on the news that is airing on my TV currently, there is the new President's order that we will not use torture on terrorist suspects and won't compromise our standards. That all sounds great, but when we need someone on that wall, or need the Jack Bauer tactics to get the incredibly determined terrorist to tell us what they know of a pending attack that could jeopardize the lives of hundreds, or thousands or (shudder to think) tens or hundreds of thousands of our citizens. If and/or more likely when a terrorist cell makes their move and tries to pull off another 9-11 like attack a lot of the liberal lemmings that decry the patriot act and the erosion of our civil rights that supposedly took place because of it are going to be singing (make that screaming blue, bloody, murder!) a completely different tune and will likely be demanding action far harsher than waterboarding a terrorist or three to get information to protect our interests.
Yes it's early in the new President's term, and yes he is trying to hit the ground running and show action. Ordering the closure of the detention facility at Gitmo sounds great and I'm sure the Air America listeners and Move-On.org types will be cheering now, but where will they be and what will they be doing if a few of the scum that are currently housed at Gitmo are released to go carry out their acts of hatred against loved ones of some of those individuals? Where will the scum wind up or be housed at? Their own home countries don't want them back, and none of those socially advanced countries that call themselves our allies are all that interested in having them there either.
Making noise about stopping the revolving door of lobbying sounds great too, but, uh, what's this I see in Obama's appointments? Former Clinton-ites (and Hil-dog herself, with her chubby hubby) that seemed to do a darned good job of working in private industry and academia before moving over or back over to working for Government again. It sounds good to claim that you'll stop the problem, but I've seen those promises before (*cough* Clinton *cough*, and later W. as well really) and it's nothing but a bunch of hot air really.
I think I've rambled enough for right now, but consider this the shot across the bow. More rambling will be coming. Thanks to the voters that swept in Obama and some other Democrats via his coat-tails, I'm gonna have plenty of fuel for the fires and it's likely to inspire about 4 to 8 years worth of articles that offer a more thoughtful and/or reasoned view of things than the partisans on the left would want people to be looking at (pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!!) I'll be doing my best to be fair as I go, but I want to be clear that where there's hypocrisy or stupidity I'm going to be pointing it out and showing it for what it is.
