Possible Virus?

Ok, here is whats been happening on my PC.

Sometimes when I types a website into the address bar, I get automatically forwarded to a site that has nothing to do with my actual destination.

The same also happens when I do a google search.

I have used 3 AV programs and run a full scan and none of them found anything. I have also noticed my computer freezes up a lot lately and it never used to do that.

Does anyone know whats up? I have an HP running Windows XP Service Pack 3.

It's hard to troubleshoot someone else's computer from the other side of the internet. The best I can advise is to try the following...

1 - Go to malwarebytes.org and download their Anti-Malware program. Be careful and make sure you're actually at malwarebytes.org before you go clicking on anything though. Run the full scan and fix any malware it detects.

2 - Go to sophos.com and download their Anti-Rootkit program. Run it and fix what it recommends.

3 - Go to glaryutilities.com and download their free utilities. Run the 1 Click Maintenance and fix what it finds.

The programs above excel in what they do and are aimed at the novice computer user.

Of course, making sure your anti-virus is up to date and that your Windows updates are current goes without saying.

Also note that using more than one AV/Firewall/Internet security suite at the same time may compromise their functionality, only use one of each at the same time!

I wouldn't use several AV's, that can give you a bluescreen on a startup forcing you to format the computer if I'm right. It doesn't sound like a virus, but spyware, get some anti spyware programs like AdWare, there's lots of them. Another one called Spyware: Seek and Destroy or something aswell.

sounds to me like you have a highjacker.

if what MottiKhan suggested doesn't solve the problem, uninstall all AV software and try Kasersky. IMO it is the best and v7 (2008 version) was also rated as the number one AV by PCWorld Magazine last year. I have been using it for over a year and have not had a single problem that it could not fix. v8 is pretty much the same with a nicer, more user friendly GUI.

One nice thing about kaspersky is that the trial version is FULLY functional. Just limited to 30 days on virus definition updates. Most trail AV's are limited on fuction such as they will detect but not clean/remove without purchase. If you like it you can continue to use the trail version for more than 30 days by using a differnt email address to register the trial version for another 30 days until you can afford to buy it. My hole family is using it after we bought a 5 user license when v8 was released. It's really cheap that way too. we have 5 systems protected for $20/year per system due to price breaks for multi-user and multi year updates (2 years)
