A couple of movies that are worth catching...

Over the last few days I got a chance to catch a couple of films, one on the big screen, and one that I really wish I had seen on the big screen (but enjoyed the luxury of watching on Blu-ray).

First up, the film Defiance with Daniel 'James Bond' Craig in a starring role, along with Liev Schrieber and others that aren't as easily recognized.  The film is about real life events back during World War II, with Craig playing Tuvia Bielski and Schrieber playing his brother Zus.  Tuvia, along with his brothers, helped to save many Jews that were trying to survive Nazi occupation and escape the certain death that they would face if they remained in the Ghettos and camps that the Nazi's took them to.  The story runs a little long, but never really drags and maintained my interest throughout the entire film.  While I realize the cost of going out to see a film in a theatre isn't cheap, I'd rate this one as well worth the experience.

The second film was one that I watched on Blu-ray but really do wish I had caught on the big screen.  The film: The Express which was about Ernie Davis.  I don't want to spoil the film for anyone that wants to watch it and doesn't know the story, but will say again it was based on real events.  It looked incredible in HD and knowing that it was about a real person who was also a fascinating individual made for a great viewing experience.  I can't recommend this film highly enough, and really encourage everyone to add it to their rental que.

Hey Terp,  good to see you! I've not see Defiance but will put it on my Netflix line up. It seemed really good from the previews I saw.  I havent' seen

express either, not sure I heard about it before.  There are a few new movies coming up that I'm planning to go see at the movies, most are either Marvel comics remake or Sci fi!

Howdy Foreverserenity, just so you know Defiance is out in theatres now.  Hopefully it'll get several more weeks there, but then again the studios seem so impatient about how long movies run in theatres any more that it could show up on DVD in just a few weeks and wouldn't surprise me at all.

That was one of the other films I wanted to see when I went with my friend on Tuesday, but we only had time to watch one film so we went for Defiance instead.  At this point I'll probably have to wait for Gran Torino to hit the disc formats before I see it. :(

I don't think the impact of this movie will be lost on the small screen, especially since there are no special effects or action scenes, just a good story. I think no matter what your background is, most everyone will be able to relate to this movies message.
