Help with pattern in Start Menu

I just started something new last night. I am happy so far, except for the fact that the pattern doesn't quite look right in the start menu. The parts that are affected are the Programs List (Left side) and the Places List (Right side).

Any input?

Okay, before anyone has a chance to poke fun at me, I misspelled "Pattern" in the screeny! ;P

You can only tile a pattern perfectly inside a square panel, anything else there is always going to be a single bad tile tile point, and remember to always check it at different start menu sizes before thinking you 'got it'

Also, you can't tile a pattern and a gradient in the same image (unless your using the layers feature in SKS)

If your using the same pattern on the taskbar make sure to check at bigger taskbar sizes also.

Whoa! Thanks for that tip on the taskbar! I just tried a bigger taskbar, and it went wonky!

always check it at different start menu sizes before thinking you 'got it'

How do I do this?

i am only a learner at this game, & do not feel qualified to advise, but on the start panels I have done with a pattern I have made the images true size & used the "centre middle section" & "centre (true (size no margins)" options in the drop down menus in the painting margins tab in SkinStudio 6. Hope this is of help.

vStyler is right I did a skin called Vexa that was a nightmare with the pattern and if Remeber correctly John tried towarn me then!

Anyway if the userpane ends with the grey then i just looks like maybe 1 pix off up or down on the tiling points judging from the SS anyway

Looking good though Brian!

vStyler-- I have played some with the start menu, and I think I've got it figured out, but what I'm really excited about now is that I figured out the taskbar! Pattern looks great with single, double, or triple height taskbar! Thanks again for that tip! You 'da man!

Yup! looks nice Brian B)

Yeah, best way to do it is to fade the pattern into a solid area then tile it in that area.. just never looks as good, has always irritated me. X|

Still has a bad area on both left and right panel on inner edges though.

Sorry I'm a bit of a stickler. ;P

... yeah Johnny very "picky guy" ;) .. he always want to perfect in 1100%...

But always helpful too.. looking foward to build.. B)

Perfection is not a bad thing to shoot for! I'm NOT saying that Aqueous was perfect, but there's a reason it took me 7 months... :)

V is right (as usual)...once zoomed in,that center division area isnt tiling properly.Might try losing the margins there.

Okay. I think I got it. Threw in some taskbar buttons, too. B)

you got the right panel...

..left panel is still way off on right side of panel from the B in your name down.

Also have u checked it at different start menu heights? usually adding or taking away an icon or two will result in a bad tile point all over again even though it was right at your default size.

you got the right panel...

Yeah, in order to get it, I had to work with all the others except the top! X|

As far as the existing problem, I have zoomed in pretty far, and still don't see it. Do you possibly think that the shadow coming off the metal onto the patterned (right) part could be causing somewhat of a visual conflict?

lol.. no its not a shadow Brian..

Ive zoomed it a bit to make it clearer.. all the way down right side of left panel starting at arrow tip
