playing as one race in multiple games

What I want to know is this: is there some way in  single player to set the race everytime you play? Picking the "racial set" is like playing roulette when you start a game..... you never know what you're gonna get. Am I missing something?

It's just friggin' annoying to exit out and restart if I want to play as tec, for example. Is there a mod that'll do that? Or is there some  button that I can't find in the manual that explains how?
