Mystery Roar Detected in Space!

Life out there.....?

http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/090107-aas-loud-cosmic-noise.html

I picked up my son to run an errand for him, he was bursting with news.  He told me that he just read that a mystery sound was heard in space!  I was surprised!  We looked at each other,  "Wow, what does that mean?" I asked him.  Then I told him to repeat what he read.  He told me that scientists have heard some kind of loud noise in space on the other side of somewhere out there.  I'm like, wow!  So we started chatting and guessing at the possibilities at what this could mean for us humans.

Could it be there's going to be a War of the Worlds like the movie, or do you think there are things waiting to wake up like that movie with those long legged monster machines, I forgot the name again, and he reminded me.  I can't recall it now, sorry!  If you love Sci-Fi you might have seen the movie!

We chatted about all the possibilities and what this could mean for our planet, good or bad, we freaked each other out and laughed out loud at where our minds led us!

Can you imagine dear reader, what that roar could be?  Enquiring minds want to know!  See the attached link and read more.  There were some interesting comments to that article as well.

The movie is 'War of the Worlds', as you previously mentioned.  As for the noise, it might have been our universe rubbing up against another.  I hope we don't get a bill for scratching it

Well, you know the US spent, what was it, like 7 million dollars to send a new toliet to the ISS?  I suppose they can afford to eat some beans now.

I thought there couldn't be noise in space as there is nothing (atmosphere) to carry the sound waves.

Sure Star Wars would have been a bit strange without spaceships loudly exploding but, you know, ... real life?

  Oh yeah, the toilet debacle!  You need to have a proper way of 'doing your biznez' as my daughter would say, even in space! :D

Space has no sound. The articles are misleading in that they say there is. They are really talking about radio waves, which are electromagnetic radiation, not sound waves. Sure, we can convert it into audio with our devices, but it is essentially light and not sound.
