RAS Total?

If this is not the correct place to post this then i apologies in advance!

I can not seem to get the RAS total bytes sent/received to work. I have tried searching but have not found anything helpful. I don’t know if it is an error with my system or DesktopX.

I am running Windows XP SP3 with desktop builder 3.5.

Hopefully some one can point me in the right direction to resolve my problem!

Thanks in advance,

Rhoath

What object/widget are you using?  Link?

Thanks for the reply Zubaz!

Well I am still new to all this so hopefully I ge this right!?!?

I right click on the desktopX builder and click new object. When the properties for the new object is opened I select the performacemeter2 and then the configure button. The RAS total is listed under the configure and the btyes in and out under that.

If this does not help narrow down what I am doing then I will try and post a picture of everthing..

Never fuddled with those meters before. Is there any acivity for the meter to detect?

Yeah I make sure ther eis activitiy for it to detect, useally well beyond where it should have been detecting it.

when i 1st started messing with it - it did nothing - took a while to find the RAS since I had gone through those in a couple of yrs

i get activity using horiz, vert, histogram

do you get anything at all? = nothing shows until you okay back through and hit the final apply

try to change for another way with the network interface. my system is french you have to translate the directory. select system performance meters on data source. choose assistant as detail level then network interface ( interface reseau in french) > Octets received/s or sent ( octets reçus/s in french) then choose the selected object instance (instance de l'objet selectionné in french). this instance choose the wifi card or the ethernet as source.your object will work now. I would make a tutorial to change this performance meters setting with screenshot but I don't know the directory name as my laptop is in french. If someone wan't to translate the directory name I will be happy to do it.

if you use pictures with arrows - we might be able to figure it out with google...

like I said, I get activity but it's not really useable/readable.... since I don't know what I'm doing..

philmar83,

Thanks for the information! I will have to take a look at it when I get home from work.

Bichur,

To be honest I never tried the graphical indicators. I have been attempting to get a numerical/text output. you got me thing about just trying it with a graphical indication and see if that cause any changes.

I should have done this awhile ago...

sViz, I've made a widget with all those meters, and it's been working on my desktop for over a month, yet when I submit it, the mods say it doesn't worko_O   yet people I've emailed it to, say it does.. ahhh the mind boggles.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the network card? Currently i am using a wireless network connection I wonder if a wired connection would make a diffrence?

I've done simple meters (c drive, cpu activity, etc) but when I start getting into RAS, etc, I cease to know what the heck I'm monitoring. Not really a computer whiz over here.;P

It's just weird how Desktopx comes with these meters already scripted, yet they don't 'appear' to work for anyone, well they do for me and the people that I emailed it to, just not the mods.

Yeah. That's why I feel there needs to be more effort to explain DX rather than just add more features. It doesn't really matter how powerful you make a program if no one knows how to get it to work properly.

Like the email notify, it's voided after exporting, and you can't configure the email, it even says that in a tutorial, that it's basically totally useless when you export it.. right clicking gives you nothing but 'close', 'about' and 'properties', so why add it in the first placeo_O XD :meow:

That's weird. When I export and r-click on the widget I get an option to configure the email account and everything.

Maybe it's the notify script, or lack of, as there's no option to edit it, it runs from a .dll I think.:'(

you got that right girl.  dtx seems to be more oriented with quick how to's assuming you already know the 'how to get there 1st' - yet seems to be done in a way that can help those who don't know scripting at all, to learn how.  some basic explanation of what you're doing and the cause/effect would be nice.

sViz!! I actually got the notifier to export and allow me to configure, you can't group thing's OR make the thing a shortcut or a URL, it will cut out the config option in the same way grouping does, happens with the meters as well.. well for me anyway, but hey, tis working woot}:)  well.. it notifies, there's just no way to open Outlook with it though, unless it's grouped, and won't allow config lol

Agreed!

Great! Never would've guessed that'd be a problem, but DX does wacky things sometimes.

Yes it does. Ras don't work for wireless connection. you have to change the data source as I explained you

Philmar83,

I was able to change the data source to what you indicated but I was only able to find bytes/sec rather than a bytes total. At least it is working for the bytes/sec!
