For fans by fans, which means I need your help ;)

The Elemental Fan Wiki needs more contributors!

Introduction

Enlist now to contribute and fight the evils of bear cavalry for the glory of the Pegasi! Or help stopping the spreading of misinformations about bear cavalry and work to return bear cavalry where it belongs!

What is a wiki?

A wiki is an internet site where everyone can freely contribute and write. The most famous wiki is surely wikipedia. Wikis are a very good way to gather and provide informations about games. If you ever had a question, your fastest way of getting an anwers is looking it up at a good game wiki. It's even faster then asking on forums and helps keeping repeating questions from spamming up everywhere.

How can I help? Is it hard to do?

The Elemental Fan Wiki is hosted by Cervo for which I've to thank him. I've created some sections and stubs for it but I need help. The wiki needs more information, better information and better style. So if you can help, I would be grateful.

Editing it is simple and no registration is necessary. If you think you don't have the knowledge to do it, think again. Editing and adding to a wiki is as simple as writing a forum entry. But if you have questions or feel lost, don't worry, I'm here to help you. You can ask questions on the wiki help pages or here in this thread. I'll try to answer them as fast as possible.

If you think your grammar or style of writing isn't very good or have problems with organisation and styling of the articles and feel restraint because of it, don't worry. I'll gladly correct spelling mistakes, improve the style or rewrite as necessary (but of course I won't touch it if is good allready) or help with organisation. I myself aren't a native English speaker anyway so it can't be much worse than what I've allready written. ;)

So, what are you waiting for?

So if you think you have some time and want to help the community in building a good wiki for a even better game, please feel free to follow the link and contribute.

Thank you. <3

Go, Eblekongen! Go!
Go Vandenburg! Go!

Vandenburg, eh? Is that your real name, or did you just play Deus Ex too much?

Yeah. It haven't aged very well (first-person games rarely do) but I'm still hoping for a remake.

Deus Ex II was shit, though. Here's to hoping for Deus Ex III hopefully pretending like Deus Ex 2 never happened.

The game isn't out yet.... how much can we really put on a wiki?  Not to be a spoil sport, but nothing is yet official, and won't cleaning up the un official content create tons of trouble later?

Unless we start over when the game, or at least the beta, comes out.

Spoilsport! :P

It's actually not much of a problem. First, since a wiki should get regularly updated one can make it actual on a case by case basis, since not all information is usually released at once.

Secondly, on how much you can add: Take a look at this wiki for Diablo III by diii.net. It has tons of content and is a very good resource if you want to get information about Diablo III. To have the same success with an Elemental wiki will be hard of course, but with some regular contributors and use of the wiki by the forum community to answer questions or research information about the game it could be very useful.

Also I intended the wiki to be more for the beta version of the game, when questions from people not in the game can be answered by those in by adding to the wiki and then linking to it instead of having to answer the same questions every week. But I want to create a base to build up now, so people can get used to wiki editing, know that there is a wiki waiting, etc.

Thus I don't think it's a waste to add to it right know, even if we don't know much about the game yet, we can add what we know and point people to it if needed. :)

A solid wiki for the beta process would be very good for educational purposes as well as posterity. To the best of my knowledge SD is the only developer that has open public beta processes as part of its inherent design process and a coherent, cogent and well developed information archive would be very useful to say the least.

One suggestion.

The wiki logo should perhaps show that we are still in pre beta. Just by adding a "pre-beta" sign on it. And when we enter beta, change it to a "beta" sign. Then when the game is released the new wiki should be seperated between a beta one and a released one. From there every article should go tru a validation prosess, where you go tru all the articles and change what is not up to date.

Just remember, there is the "this article is not up to date" banner also.

Or, when the final game comes out, just add the "this article is not up to date" banner to every single article. Then go through them and update them one at a time. Might be easier than starting from scratch.

Ehm!

In case you didn't notice I quoted you and used your idea. But sort of changed it. I was suggesting that there shouldn't be a separation between beta/release versions of the wiki. Just the beta wiki become the release version wiki, full of the not up to date banners until somebody checks them. I got the impression that you suggested that the release version wiki be empty until articles in the beta wiki are approved for it. Sorry if I misunderstood...

Naw naw, no need to be sorry. Guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I was just venting ideas really. One of them being the same as yours. Should have explained more than just: "Just remember, there is the "this article is not up to date" banner also." :dur:

There isn't an article on bear cavalry yet?

We need an article on 'bear calvary' too, that says its a common misspelling of "bear cavalry"

Haha there is probably more information for that entry than any other right now! After all, bear cavalry so far has been the single most controversial topic on these forums, not to mention widespread!
