It's time to bring the best space MMO ever to the best space RTS ever...

First question: is anyone else already working on something like this?  If so what have you done so far?  Would you like to collaborate?

Now I know that a game as complex as Eve cannot be fully incorporated into Sins... I just want to take the best elements and come up with a good mix.

I first want to go over the various aspects of Eve and hash out what we can and can't do in Sins.

I want to compile lists of:

  • Frigates and Capitals Ships
  • Fighters/Bombers
  • Structures
  • Abilities
  • Star and Planet name lists
  • Planet Types
  • Planet bonuses
  • Races

I'll compile this info here and expand to separate threads only if necessary.

Excellente idea! I would really wish to see this mod been made, Titans could very powerfull ships but really really expensive.

Nice idea but, it would be cool to see like 50 Titans in one battle and like 100+ support ships (battleships, drednaughts, carriers...)

well if your rig can handle the massive polygon count of larger ships all on the screen at once go 4 it :-)

Dont forget that titans will be expensive as hell and take you a long time to build. I would give it a 10 minutes build time atleast since those things take 3 months to build in eve. And the resorces needed is also insane.

Loved the Thron, was a great mining ship and useful in gathering the materials for my first tempest.  :)  Love that hard mode.
the only problem with converting EVE to SINS is reproducing GM scamming, Goons smacking, Russian Logoffski's, and macro miners with DG tanks or macro ratters.  GM scamming must be done via Dev.exe, Goons smacking -hell, mod the taunts to swearing at a 2nd grade level, Logoffski's are tougher and EVE just isn't EVE without them, ... the macro'n however is all AI so good there.

that covered, start the mod already.

I was seriously considering making a realistic copy for myself that would consist of that stuff, along with bobbit hax, desynchs, GHSC breaking up your alliances, honor tanked dreads, general lag all over the place :P

On another note I am trying to learn these tools but the tutorial for POV-Ray in the process is just not their. The tutorial linked earlier in this post was great right up until i was supposed to flip the image in POV-Ray but i dont even know how to open it in POV much less flip it....

If someone can teach me that maybe i can figure out the 3ds rendering from their to 3dsfile to xsi file to mesh file and in the game!

Do you mean the Jove?

There are videos of a few Jove ships and best chances for this being implemented would be to have the Jove function as a type of random event.

quick progress note... I been extracting and playing with the eve models and eh... the sins engine does not like over lapping polygons,,, every eve ship seems to have ALOT of over lapping polygons...

That's the premium model, correct?

I had a kestrel open in Maya and couldn't find any overlap; I guess it depends on the ship, though.

What were your biggest hurdles in the art pipeline? (ripping EVE to putting it into Sins)

I can get all the ships into tri exporter -> dds -> 3ds -> xsi -> mesh for sins... its this last step getting the mesh in XSI

I LOVE YOU!!!!! I been playign eve since augest 6th 2004 and been waitign for a EVE Mod for this game im glad somebody stud up for the challenge

Oh btw you can def count me in i got a small team working on the modeling with me so that we can get these babies done ASAP. Once you get your ships model'd textured then the HARD process of making them fit the laws of sins we will be good to go!

Erm, unless Progress' fancytalk got CCP to go with it, we can't use models/textures from the client... If he did get CCP to go with it, are you cutting the number of polys in the meshes down? iirc the number of polys for the models in eve are pretty high and in larger fights in Sins, computers would be breaking...

Mindspat: I meant a race with all four race's ships, sorta like a pod pilot race.
