WindowBlinds and PrintScreen

I noticed recently that the program I use for screen shots, Gadwin PrintScreen, has some problems with WindowBlinds.

When WB is running, preparing a screen shot changes the look of the screen, taking away the window frame, leaving only the client area. This means that if I send a screen shot to somebody for diagnostic purposes, it is not as I see it in real life.

Unloading WB corrects the situation.

Does anyone know if later versions of WB remove this problem, or if there is a simple, cheap, print screen application which can handle a system with WB loaded?

Some screenshot applications are not alpha aware and so will not capture anything that uses per pixel alpha.

Thanks, HG_Eliminator, but I want a screenshot application which doesn't require me to manipulate a screenful in a graphics application (I already have more than one of those). The advantage with Gadwin PrintScreen is that it allows me to specify whether I want full screen, current window, client window or a rectangular area (on-screen), and places the screenshot in a specified folder with a specified naming convention. The disadvantage seems to be its lack of alpha awareness.

Xnview has almost all the setting's you specified, the only one im not sure on is the rectangular area.. it might be there but im not seeing it..but it does have the option for using a hot key for one click SS saving to a preset file folder with active window, client window settings etc... It's all there in the "Capture" settings. It may be worth looking in to..

May I suggest (for dirt easy use and some nice features) Jing?

If you have object dock - go get the 'capture' docklet - one click and it takes the shot and drops it in a folder - will save in a few formats and auto create a thumbnail if you want

That one rocks too.

I have ObjectDock Plus. I downloaded and installed Capture, and, immediately after installation succedded in producing a screenshot, full screen, which was placed in the docklet's folder.

Since then, after changing the location of screenshots, and the naming convention, I have never succeeded in getting it to do anything whatsoever, so I have no idea now how I'm supposed to get a screenshot of, for example, a particular PART of the screen.

Jing, on the other hand, does a lot more.

Thanks a lot for the crap - that really helps in determining why I can't get screenshots with Capture!

Anyone out there with more constructive, or less crappy, advice?

The point being is the more crap you add to a machine the more things that can go wrong.  But to each his own.

Sorry, don't know what a "point being" is.

Since the only thing I have mentioned as being added to my machine is the Capture docklet,  you're not being particularly complimentary about it, calling it such names.

"it" doesn't have feelings so it's probably OK.  :)

What WOM meant ("the point being", "the point of the conversation") was that the PrtScrn key on your computer might do what you need and that the more stuff ("crap", applications, software) you install the more conflicts you may have.  :)

Yes, I understood what he meant to say, but didn't like the way he said it. One of "being" and "is" is redundant.

None of this gets me any closer to finding out why Capture doesn't.

Hit print screen and use IrfanViewer/edit/paste.  Full ss, resizable, etc..  Just another option.

what settings did you adjust?

I have it set to capture from screen, to jpg

it drops them into a folder on my documents

(C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Capture)

once the folder path is entered (or anything is changed under 'capture settings..' - don't forget to click update

I didn't adjust the "file format" > "Capture ($[dd],$[HH]_$[mm]_$[ss])"

it's set to use the timer (5.00 secs)

it's set to capture layered windows

and the naming convention,

maybe putting that back to the default - Capture ($[dd],$[HH]_$[mm]_$[ss]) ?

this: "  Capture ($[m]-$[dd]-$[yyyy],$[HH]_$[mm]_$[ss]) "

also kinda works for me, giving me: Capture (12-07-2008,14_12_12).jpg

which at least gives me month, day, year, hour, month?, secs

not sure how to 'fix' the mintutes - even at default it seems the $[mm] is giving the month not the minutes

shot taken at 14:23 using default naming convention shows: Capture (07,14_12_37).jpg

Thanks for the advice Bichur.

This gets curiouser and curiouser. I removed and reinstalled the Capture docklet, in D:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets\Capture, in much the same way as all the other docklets. ObjectDock certainly finds then there!

The result is that Capture setting is restored to the way it was when delivered (downloaded). Now, if i click on Open Capture Folder... (described in the readme file as "The Capture's docklet path") I get an error message:

Windows cannot find'Docklets\Capture\\'. (followed by a suggestion that I should check the spelling, etc.)

It doesn't help to change to $[dp] instead of $[dp]\, I just get one"\" fewer in the error message. It would seem that Capture and ObjectDock Plus have different ideas as to what the docklet path is.

I have tried setting the path to null. According to the readme, that means that Capture places the captured picture in the root folder of OD (Object Desktop, or ObjectDock?). At least this time I get no error message, but still no file, not anywhere on my system.

I even tried hard-coding the path as D:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Docklets\Capture\. Result: nothing, nada, niente, rien, ingenting, nichts, niets, zilch.
