Drengin Economy

I'm playing as Drengin in a sandbox game. I decided to achieve a conquest victory but to no vail after multiple tries.

Diplomatic relations turn sour early in the game and I cant seem to get my economy high enough to support all my ships. From mid game onwards, other civilizations overpower me with their millitary and I got conquered planet after planet.

Question: How do you sustain Drengin's economy without using trade? I've max out economics in the reearch tree. What are some good Drengin strategies in general?

Have you tried extorting money from minors?   At least, that's what they were supposed to do by design.

When you say minors, are you referring to minor races?

Leverage the Drengin's military advantage.  You should have been picking military production bonuses already as Drengin are all about conquest.  But you cannot grow and support a strong military without a strong empire.  Boost military production enormously from the racial picks - and colony rush.  Now as you see, the military bonus naturally applies to the colony rush.  Requires a balancing act with economy, but burn much of the initial money fast.

It is much easier to colonize than it is to conquer.  Difficult or not as it may be for you to conquer others, it will be absurdly so for them to try to conquer you in the early years, as not only do you have the best troops but they probably do not even have planetary invasion and have no way to attack the worlds which you have seized out from under them!  So get those worlds fast and you do not have to worry over them.

Once you have a vast empire you are set.  Colonies do not have to be developed for your empire to be considered mature; an "empire" of outposts with a developed core is sufficient to commence galactic conquest.

Hi!

Diplomatic relations turn sour early in the game and I cant seem to get my economy high enough to support all my ships.

Just a few quick tips:

- don't start a game with only good opponents, or play it at lower difficulty level.
- don't just build ships. In this game quality beats quantity. Build just a few ships, that are tailored to the race you want to conquer.
- scrap those silly dominator ships you get for free. Their maintenance isn't free.
- keep other races "happy" by using trade, so you fight only one war at a time.

I find also do not try to make shisp in a million worlds. With Dregs i have maybe 5 or 6 worlds in a medium sized empire or if i am very large 7 to 12 that make ships and got huge production. This way all they do is pump out ships so I don spend all my other planets slowly making a ship every 100 turns.

I just played drengin seems research and economy is so slow and they don't have many good starting techs that give a boost, I think the way to go is to just focus on military then extort money, after that take over minor races and conquer.. However, this style doesn't seem to suit me very well as I always like researching the strongest techs or making a good economy before even building military. They're kinda like a zergling or zealot rush in starcraft, if they don't succeed taking other in the 1st inital rush their economy and research is under par from the rest..
