I want my money back!

I want my money back!

hi

i bought it to play online, which didnt work at, i waited all these month for the 1.1 patch, which was announced for mid of july.

i didnt play all summer and started again after 1.1 came out. did 4 or 5 games. 4 of them ended with sync problems and one minidump. so i paid for a something, that didnt get me what i was promised.

in a normal "real" shop i would go there and get my money back, so actually i expect the same from you!

so please tell me, how i return the game and get my money back

thanks

If the game was advertised as an online game, it should work that way out of the package. If the public is expected to finish the beta testing on any product they should get the product at a deep discount and should be offered a hassle-free, no questions asked return policy. Patches to plug new found problems caused by environmental changes after a product is released are considered maintenance. Patches to fix something that doesn't work the way it is supposed to means the product wasn't tested enough before releasing it.

The game did work as an online game advetised, by the way games are never perfect if they were we the people of this world would be bored all the time. People who have an interest in this game buy it when it is releashed. Then in a few months people send in there complaints, pictures, minidump files to the games support team. Then the company analyzes all that data and  make a patch, sometimes it is beta for the customer to test if they want to or they could wait to the patch is finalized. Then the final patch is released and everbody usually happy for a while until the next bug comes and it repeats all over again. I can see that conte has a bug problem with his game and I am ok with him explaing his problem. My problem right now is that conte thinks that game should be perfect on the first day it is released which never happens. The ironclad support team is some of the best I've seen out there.

edit: Silveus is quite right about the every computer is different and a game does not work right for every single one and game programming at the scale is quite complex.

Hang on a sec, according to the OP the game didn't work as advertised even though it may well work well for many users.

Certainly under the consumer laws of the UK you would have grounds for a refund if you could demostrate the extent of the problems and also you gave the developers a reasonable oppourtunity to assist in your problem i.e. you reported things in the proper manner.

Likewise from the retailers PoV their liability is only for the retail value, so if its a genuine complaint then it is worth consideration.

Being entiltled to a refund as a point of customer care based on any morale arguements to do with what is or is not fair given the circumstances is completely at the discretion of the retailer i.e. Stardock.

Being entitled to a refund as a point of consumer law is a whole different kettle of fish where statements like 'by the way games are never perfect' are perfectly true but have no validity in law, neither do you have any claim against the developer only the retailer. So in this case you will be likely bound by the laws of Canada and if they say your entitled to a refund then make your complaint in writing, otherwise tough cookie :moo:

Personally I think if you have been actively co-operating with technical support then you have reasonable grounds, if you were just waiting for a patch to land in your lap then frankly your taking the piss a little and go sell your copy of SoaSE on fleabay.

Sorry if that comes across a little sharp, Im just bringing a reality to check to the thread.

I said that because he obviously, like so many other clueless people, think that a minidump is a bad thing that crashes the game.

Good for you Regi...You were able to regergitate this one again.  Astrath already stated it, That`s fine.  You on the other hand are trying to throw out the " A mini dump is an error report, Not a crash" f#$%*&^ brainstorm again.  Thanx genius, This one has been kicked around since the release of the game.  Next time bring something new to the party or don`t f%&#%@# show up.

As for you Conte,  I think you`ve waited way too long to ask for a refund though.  Maybe upto 3 months, But 9+ months is a problem.  Stardock seems to be a very flexible company, They may grant you`re request.  Personally, I wouldn`t.

Man, I want to like this company, but its hard. I wont even register Sins, bought that and Galactic Civ2{which I have registered} but I just dont like the philosophy of thinking everyone is either crooked or out to burn them. Good luck but you wont see anything I think. As for the defensive fanboys on these forums, I normally dont post, just read, because they take too much delight in twisting shit to support their points.

Yes, damn Stardock for installing SecuROM or StarForce on my PC without my knowledge or consent!

...

Oh, wait.. They kinda didn't.

1) ok minidumps are a fact of life in sins they happen it sucks but hey u can get around them and minidumps dont happen much in 1.1.

2) sync errors are new problem that they are fixing so give it time and it will be fixed next patch.

I'm not an apologist or a fanboy, and arguments could be made that would back up a case of refunding purchase price on Sins.

Just not for Conte.

Please understand, Conte, I'm not trying to pick on you, probably only played a couple games with you, but to go back to the car analogy, you are like a guy who has been driving his car around with a big smile on his face for 8 months.

Alot of other people bought the same model (500k) but you are probably top 500 in terms of hours put into driving this car.  Now you want your money back, when it's pretty clear to anyone who's seen your stats that you got your money's worth and more.

Incidentally 50% dumped games I would believe, because most experienced players have similar prior to 1.1...80% is an exaggeration, no?  In 1.11 I've had exactly one dumped game, out of maybe 10.  Maybe you should give it another shot...

Sorta as an aside, why would you bring this to the forums?  I could see trying to squeak through with Stardock Sales, because they are incredibly lenient in their business model compared to oh, say, *any other company in this business.*  As soon as you brought it to the forums, though, you had to know people you have played with would see it, and point out that you aren't exactly being forthcoming...

If you really feel that way then you might as well stop playing PC games because Stardock is as good as it gets.  Ever heard of SecuruROM, Starforce, or CDilla?  Aren't you glad you don't have to put the danged CD in the drive every time you want to play?  People like Stardock because of it's lack of annoying DRM (digital rights management) anti-piracy BS.

I think Conte Could probably get a refund. Stardock does say that if the game doesn't run you can return it, I am not exactly sure how to return a digital game but i assume its possible. Generly speaking, even if COnte's complaint didn't fall into a catagory that would allow him to return his game, stardock would probably let it happen anyway since it is customer support. The problem here is that Conte went about this in all the wrong ways.

Lets assume i get sour milk from a super market. I walk back in and go to custumer service, wait in line and then tell the person behind the desk "Excuse me, i just got some milk here and it seems to be sour, could i get a refund please?" They would happily give me a refund, i know i work in a grocery store. But that isn't want Conte did. Conte did this.

Walks into the middle of the front end, were both custumers and emplyees are. (Notice he is not at customer service, the corect place to be)

"I just got milk here and it sucks, i waited for months for better milk but that also sucks. My milk doesn't taste the way i want it. Other places give refunds so i expect you to give me a refund! Some one come over here and tell me how to get my money back."

Notice the difference? If some one had said that in my store we would ask them to leave and if they didn't we would call the cops and have them forced to leave. Thats what happens when you act like a Jerk and expect people to bend over backwards for you.

  yea good point. Plus what most people fail to realise is that conte has lied about some of the things in his post and he is constantly on these boards causing trouble and slagging off stardock as I have read and replied to a number of his posts. So basically don't take him too seriously.
