Why now Osama?

from Arab and Muslim perspective

ok Osama Bin laden is back in Town after two years of absence in a video message for the American People for the first time saying why he did 9/11 proudly and how he thought of it !!
well I heard the complete statement or what ever it is on El-jazeera news channel (why always el-jazeera among all arabic channels got the terrorists recorded messages?!) ,of course I didn't need any translation as I am arabic and I know my mother tongue language very well and there are some points I stopped in it

-first of all thinking of 9/11 began in 1982 because of the Lebanon invasion in same year from the Iserali Army ,that's what he said proudly
in 1982 I think the Afghanstan was still under the Soviet army rule and there was already war between the Soviets and the afghans and other muslims like Osama Bin Laden who were supported by the C.I.A and United states ,so the U.S wasn't the really enemy at this time ,in fact it was his allie !! strange right, correct my information if anything was wrong in dates .
another thing for all americans and all westerns who aren't familier with the lebanese civil war execpt knowing there was a civil war there and now they have the Hazb Allah party, the civil war and the invasion of Lebanon has nothing to do what Osama refers to as A war On IsLam and any person knows the lebanese history will know this
the Civil war and invasion of Lebanon was all a conflict who will rule the little country ,nothing less nothing more, yes there was a religious civil war not between Muslims and chirstians between chirstians and muslims them selves with communists and Nasris and Darous and not mention of course the Palestians in Lebanon (the main reason of war )
so please stop pushing the name of Lebanon ,it has enough problems .
Second and here we comes to the funny part of saying that every state will come across his way ,it will be punished and blah blah blah ,every state ! well he punished New York Lat time! every state! I leave with no comment
last part
why now?
Timing is very intersting
The american Elections is on Nov.2 just few days
Today is the 16th of Ramdan ,a holy month in the Islamic calender
all the arab world is watching what's going to happen in Palestine after Yasser Arfaat's leaving to Paris from Treatment from undeclared disease ( looks like Cancer ) with one way ticket not from Palestine but the whole world and whole life(God' KNows what will happen in Palestine, already there is a chaos )
I don't know ,but many people say expect anything near the american Elections including the arrest of Bin Ladden Himself

well all arabs are Busy with holy Month in Ramadan ,No one (at least whom I know ,gave the video any attention )
I will recommend the same for americans ,except they must pay attention very well from who they will choose as a president for the next 4 years because his decisions will not affect americans only but it affects the whole world too(especailly us)

you seem to have your dates correct.  does it seem to you bin laden is using the same sort of words as he has in the past?

i just read more of your articles.  please continue to offer your opinions here.   i, for one, am very interested in--and appreciate--your insight.

Why now is a very good question! A very good article. Welcome to Joeuser.

well thanks King Bee and Wise Fawn
for your question well to say the truth I will always think that Osama's speeches are boring in Arabic and sleepy yet I think for the first time he seems to me to speak in less religious accent and threatening one too despite the threat to the States of the U.S
no he didn't use the same sort of words ,he began to use the words freedom and free for the first time

ive read several translations and it appeared to me that all of them seemed to be much less..formal or classical perhaps?  why would he do that (if you have an opinion)?

yes that what I mean of less religious and threatening, may be he is trying to get the support of other people who believe in Freedom , don't like the Acts of U.S Administration and are against globalisation
he mentioned that if he hated freedom and democracy as Bush said , he would have planned to bomb Sweden
,but one thing I know for sure ,Bin laden what ever he is now tries to make people pay attention to him again , he tries to be in the spot light again especailly I guess in the arab world ,there were no news about el-Quida for a while except for ElZarkoy group in Iraq
and also the what so called popularity of Osama Bin Laden in the Arab World is decreasing (at least from my opinion and the opinion of the people I know) after the Iraq War now as the arabs say alright you hate the americans now they are in Iraq ,a muslim country and many civilians got killed ,where are you?, all what he does just speeching ,same thing for the Palestine issue

one thing to notice in Iraq now the Zarakoy terrorist group ,assumed to be part of El-Quida ,has done nothing in Iraq except kiddnapping innocent people and killing them just like what so called the islamic army of Iraq ,a way that makes the world support the existence of the american army in Iraq, giving a bad pubilicity to the Iraqi issue.
if you notice the resistence and fights in Fallujah or Nagaf has nothing to do with Zarakoy
he is just trying to come back in to the spot light saying don't forget me I am here
anyway yesterday all arab political analysts agreed on one thing this gives a push to Bush in the Elections

after checking into what's known about bin laden's personal history (i'd been wondering what the 1982 was about too--and your information about lebanon made me even more curious) and reading (translations of course) both the newest message and previous ones from several sources, i am feeling increasingly suspicious about this message.

not all of the parts fit together properly.  others seem to be missing.

the references to freedom seem so out of place, as you pointed out.  several english translations of the last sentence say 'Any state that does not mess with our security, has naturally guaranteed its own security.'  mess with our security???  im sure that must be an idiomatic error but...

also it seems strange to me that it is so easy for these tapes to be delivered to al-jazeera and no one has yet been  tracked by satellite cameras.

while im certain that zarqawi is the central target of the upcoming assault on fallouja, im not at all certain he is still there waiting for it.  (i posted the entire text of an article published by the la times about the situation in fallouja on my blog; if you have the time--its lengthy--id be interested in your opinion of it).  my feeling is the ultimate winner in iraq will be sistani who seems to be a very skillful politician.

one more thing.   in arabic does bin laden say this is the fourth year after the attack on the wtc?  is that an error in translation or has he forgotten how to count to four?

Technically, we are in the fourth year after 9/11, as of September 12, 2004. Like the 1900's were the 20th century. Same point of reference - everything from the zero reference to the end of th first year is year one, etc.

if you were married on 9/11/2001 and you were asked today how long youd been married, you'd say this is my fourth year of marriage?

I agree with Daiwa, yet you are right about the video ,it seems to me as there is something fishy about it,the timing ,well it seems it gave Bush a push after all in the elections
El-Jazeera , I will speak about it one day because this channel is more stranger than the video tapes it receives
I read parts from the L.A times article and it seems to me to be correct in important part ,American Army in Iraq lost the Sunni muslims by the fallouja events ,and it was going to lose the shiia , and a furiuos battle would have been happenedif the El-sistani didn't interfere ,the article is right about the policies made in the white House ,if you notice British forces in Iraq are less attacked then the american forces
you 're right about Sistani ,he cares about his country very much and doesn't want a civil war in it ,also be sure of this he doesn't want the americans to stay long in Iraq ,so he uses all the wisdom he has to serve his case
he wasn't a politiican in fact he is a religious man ,
another thing don't be surprise by the conditions in Iraq , it won't stabilize for a while ,all the Iraqi Presidents in last century except Saddam were killed not to mention revolutions and internal conflicts
Iraq is a big Issue I will speak about ,but I don't have time now ,

Yes. Or twelfth, depending.

Cheers,

he wasn't a politiican in fact he is a religious man ,

i know sistani is a grand ayatollah and therefore a religious scholar.  what i meant by politician was he demonstrated remarkable skill in regards to the situation in najaf by ultimately showing--without having to make any strong public statement--how powerful he is how he allowed those who might wish to acquire some of his power fight among themselves until he became the only person who could bring that to an end.

im looking forward to your future articles.

Yes. Or twelfth, depending

excellent point.  apparently that must be the reason IM unable to count years correctly.   thanks for bringing me to my senses
