Small query: Will you be able to customise the name of your hero units and towns?

As title.

Basically when I write an AAR I like to be able to use names of the people who might be reading, so that they can follow the hero\unit\character they've been named for.

I just wanted to ask if this will be possible to do in the game on the fly. I know you'll be able to design your own units and everything is going to be moddable from a unit design point of view, but that's not what I mean. I'm talking about the unique hero units, like the game has given this unit the name Martin Longstrider in this screenshot. Would I be able to change his name to anything I want to within the game I'm playing or are the names static like in Age of Wonders and something you're stuck with. Not that there's anything wrong with the name Martin, it's a lovely name. :P)

Thanks!

I'd be very suprised if you can't, that's what I have to say. I doubt there's anything in the game you won't be able to rename with some amount of ease.

That being said, I'm still hoping that we won't have to go hunt for heroes, or "summon" them "from somewhere far away", but will be able to create them from scratch, instead.

You can already do it in GalCiv 2 so why not in the futur Elemental.

Yeah, master of magic always asked what you wanted to name any new towns and many games have had it sense.   Missing that feature would be mind blowing, and probebly added in a patch if somehow overlooked.  You almost MUST be able to name nows if you are in charge of managing many self-placed cities.

You just could not rename towns once you conquered them. Mom never let you do that. It was always a bit confusing for me afterwards.

Galciv lets you rename them I always loved that.

I think it would be pretty silly if they don't let us name hero units and towns. You should be able to name towns when you settle them and when you conquer them.

Also something that might be fun to mess around with in terms of heroes is give the player the ability to give them their name, but any title or nickname would be assigned by the computer based on the traits/actions of the hero (like in that screenshot with Martin Longstrider, Martin would be the name, longstrider would be the title/nickname). I'm not even sure if I like that idea, but I thought I'd throw it out there :).

And to respond to Luckmann, even though it's off topic, I hope that you can't just design a hero whenever you want one. I'd like to see an upgraded "fame" system like in AoW:SM. But among other things, instead of getting a one-time offer, once they offer their services to you you should be able to recruit them any time afterwards.

I would be very surprised if you could not as well. It is a given in my book for such a game.

Naming your hero, but renaming? Perhaps

Awsome, "Lord Humpadumpa, Master of the Bear Cavalry"

I like pigeonpigeon's idea of an 'epithet generator' as well, especially if it can use place names from the current game--"Humpadumpa, Defender of Tinytown."

I'd also like a way to name major chunks of geography that aren't towns or cities, e.g. the river that starts near my capital, the biggest mountain in my territory, the Forbidden Forest in the back country, etc.

It would also be cool if your heroes kept gaining more pre and postfixes and you could choose wich ones you wanted to be displayed on the unit "Lord-Commander Humpadumpa, Conqueror of the Forbidden forest, Defender of Tinytown and Herald of the Growling Kittens"

The editable name fields in GC2 all have a character limit that is way lower than what might be said when announcing a Hero of the Hour at a court ball or diplomatic function. But some options/features in this area surely would add fantasy flavor for some players. Maybe the details screen for hero units can support really long names and require a specific short name to show in UI contexts where space is a challenge. So on the main map, you'd see a short name on the info panel for a selected unit, but the full name in a screentip when you point to the unit.

There should be like a hero scroll, listing all his accomplishments, together with the names he earned
