Ability to change sides

During a game

One of the things that I think would be cool is the ability at certain points in the game be able to switch and play the other faction, while the AI takes your former faction.

Example you are the "Men" And you have defeated the Fallen to the point where they are on the verge of collapse. Well it would be awesome if you could "change teams mid game/during game" And then you could play as the fallen and try to rebuild the empire. ANd fend off the men, the odds would be stacked but I like those odds.

I am not talking about picking a side/faction at the start of a game, but the ability to change it in game. You can do this in Sins of A Solar Empire by exiting the game, and then when you load it you can select the AI to play as you while you play another team, unfortunetly I have found if you do this the team you formerly controled just sits there and the AI does not do anything with it.

So if this could be implemented in Elemental that would be awesome! After all I would love to change factions mid game and try to pull the former enemy empire from the brink of defeat and launch counter attacks.

At the very least I hope there are missions that at least start with your empire on the verge of collapse/defeat and you need to rescue it and reclaim your former lands.

Your thoughts?

In a single player game, I wouldn't mind this at all. Of course, I'd probably not use it very much, or particulary care if it's not there. I know you could do it in all the old Civilization games - can you in Civ4? I'm uncertain.

So sure, what the hell. Why not?

You could do it in Civ4 if you used the Civ Chooser mod (could change sides in game) or enabled the debugging cheats in the ini file and used the ALT-Z key combo.

It had it's uses, since it allowed others to play your nation if you were absent, or for two players to switch nations.

In fall from heaven 2, if you were at a great advantage, you had the possibility to switch sides, so you had a real chllaenge for you ;)

Ys, FfH2 allows it through a random event. Always refused. I mean:

"Hello, you jsut crushed 90% of our empire, but we would like you to be our lord so you can get crushed by the empire you just built. Please?"

My answer is usually something like "Mwahahah, die silly Sheaim!" (or Grigori or Kuriotates or whatever...)

I would accept that challenge LOL and then procede to bring that empire back from ruin. Its fun at least in my opinion to do stuff like that.

seems a natural ability to deisgn into the game. In your multiplayer games you could, if you needed to take a break for some reason, temporarily vassal out your empire to an ally instead of pausing etc..

on the other hand in single player it could be seen as a type of scenario where the challenge is made after you have played out the history of the game there and then..

See, I assumed you'd just capture towns  of the other factions like in many other games.

* to get access to their armies and stuff
