Need some pointers

A peace treaty never lasts too long does it?

I just started a game on normal on a large map on TA (decided to move up from begginer). I am playing as a custom race built for trading. The dregins have been attacking me a whole lot. At first i weathered the attacks untill i could buy a peace treaty. I did that a couple of times (reasearching defences to the weapons they use in between), but seeing as how they declare war too damn often to make it worth it i decided to put togother a counter attack and i am slowly getting the parts to make a ship that can beat them fleet to fleet. The promlem is that they have WAY more fleets then me, i counted over a douzen in our last conflict before peace. They have not yet invaded any colonies (though i beleive they have the technology). and i have been making tiny craft with one weapon reapetedly on my colonies with low production to stall invasions (if they show up). I have a economic treaty with the kryn (second strongest military) and have a reasearch treatry with the altarians (largest faction). Any suggestions?

pay someone else to go to war with them. their super ability is making lots of small ships. i would suggest also making a few larger ships. If you don't want to go to war, build up a good military rating, so they have less reason to start a war.you might want to place a spy on them as well. i would pay the dregin to go to war with the altarians, and hope you have lots of good factions in your game.

Well i did endup winning, i used a planet far away to make a couple of medium sized ship fleets and was able to destroy their roaming fleets. Then i was able to get a peace treaty very cheapy (under 200bc). I allied with the kryn and sold them all kinds of space craft and paid them to go to war with everyone. By the end of the game they owned about 85% of the map but i won my a diplomatic victory
