MV Questions

I have a couple of MV questions related to the reseting of characters.

The first question is can you reset a MV character and later submit a MV game that had been started under that character prior to it's being reset?

Where this might get used is when you finish a game that is a significant improvement in your score and you decide that you want to reset your character prior to submitting the game so as to get the best possible benefit of your increased scoring ability.

I have known cases in the past where this has been done but that was over two years ago and I'm not sure that you still can.

I also know that you used to be able to resubmit a previously submitted game *once*. I have in fact successfully done this as recently as about 6 months ago. My second question is, is this still supported?

To the best of my knowledge the answer to both the above question is and should be yes but I would like if this could be verified.

However this brings me to my true question which is assuming the answer to the above two questions are yes then is the answer still yes if you try to do both things in combination?

Let's assume that I happen to have save games from all the games that I've ever submitted to the Metaverse. And let's also assume that I've never resubmitted any of them. Based on the above two questions, which should be true in isolation, I would have thought that I could reset my MV character and then resubmit some or all of my previous games to my now reset character. However the truth of the matter is that I can't.

I can understand if this is specifically disallowed due to the assumption that it would allow someone to cherry pick which scores they would want to count. If so then fine. I'm just looking for knowledge of what is or is not allowed.

As I mentioned I can see some justification for this combination of things to be specifically disallowed but there should also then be the ability to delete the last submitted game in case it was submitted in some kind of error. Specifically while I was participating in the MVL (Metaverse League) I kept a special character dedicated to the intrinsically lower scoring MVL games. However in the last MVL game that I played I inadvertently checked out the game under my primary character and didn't realize it until I submitted it and it was too late. The game was so far below my normal score that it actually lowered my MV score but since I couldn't delete it I was stuck.

But none of this is the end of the world because I was probably going to reset that character sooner or later anyway it's just that if I knew then what I know now I would have at least waited until I had a monster submission to replace it.

One final question and that is that I would also have expected that my former first place metaverse medal would have survived my character being reset. IIRC Mag reset a couple of characters that had been former 1st place characters and retained the medal. Has this changed?

All in all it is regretable that people have to eventually reset characters so as to continue to compete. As it was I did have to delete two of the three highest scores ever recorded for DL. Luckily the third was the only DL score ever to break 1 million which I recorded on a different character.

Here's what I've seen recently.

On starting a game, resetting the character and then submitting the game:  The game reports that it's submitting normally, but it doesn't show up in the character's list.  The games played number doesn't increment and the score doesn't show up.

On submitting a game, resetting the character and then resubmitting:  Also doesn't work.

Playing, submitting, replaying and resubmitting:  It works on the Metaverse for one resubmit, but the subsequent game doesn't update up in the Altmeta as far as I can tell.

The character I used for the reset tests didn't have any medals of note, so I didn't test that part.

I think it doesn't update the AltMeta automatically but I think that every once in awhile Kryo has cause to kick start the scan process and the resubmit then does show up in the Altmeta. At least that was true of the one game that I did resubmit which was a MVL game that I posted as a win of the wrong type just to get something in and corrected it to the proper win type once the round was over.

If this is true then that explains why the resubmit wouldn't work affter a reset. The point is that any game started before the character was reset cannot be submitted. Whether or not the game had already been submitted once is immaterial.

In fact this is probably the reason for not accepting games started prior to a character reset since that would potentially allow infinite resubmissions. Although I'm not sure what's wrong with resubmitting a game more than once as long as it never counts as more than one game. But like I said it was over two years ago where one game I know that was submitted after the character being reset and that was the infamous AW Treaspasser 6 million point 210 year game that caused an "extra" divide by turn number to be added to the scoring as well as a recalculate of MV scores. All of which was before my time and probably very painful for SD to deal with. That alone was probably justification to make this change.

But the syndrome you mention that the game apparently submits normally and just doesn't show up is the same behavior that I get. Oh well.

I guess it's good I asked because I would have hated to spend 6 weeks on a 1.5 million point DA game then reset my character to have found out then that would stop me from submitting. Also in this case I would have reset that character now anyway as opposed to letting the 1.3M points sit there counting towards the empire score for the 6 weeks that it takes me to finish a new game.

Stil it would be nice to hear an "official" response.

I tried resetting and resubmitting once, because the order of submission would have been beneficial to my score.  (I only had 1 game with the particular character at that point).  To my chagrin it just ended up with me losing the 500k+ game...DOH!

The question about any active game being allowed to be submitted if a reset is done mid-game could be quickly answered.  If you had a character or a character slot to do this with, pop a few real quick games in, get another ready, reset and then submit that game.  Honestly it would only take an hour or two to accomplish.
