Get Your E:WoM Avatars Here! [image heavy thread]

They only cost one (1) karma - each!

OK. Call me anal but all the gradient silhouettes are driving me nuts. So I decided to make a full set avatar from the Elemental resources we currently have. Please note that Luckmann has added many more avatars to the collection. You can get them below.

NOTE:  most of these were created/cropped/edited by folks other than myself, so please give credit where credit is due

Additional Note:  There are many more avatars scattered throughout the forum.  I just posted the majority of them here.  I have tried to include suggested pages to find more avatars by the various avatars if you want to look further.  You can also use the "view edits" button if you're very very brave to view all previous versions of this main thread and the images where-in.

OFFICIAL ART AVATARS:
(made from the official art of Elemental)

These were formatted by  (me):

The following were formatted by Luckmann: (To provide karma; you can find his posts throughout the forum, especially on page 2 and 3)

(Elemental sub-sets:  still by Luckmann)

Elemental Crystal Shards:

Elemental Symbols:

More art variants of 'official art' by Luckmann link: HERE

The following were formatted by landisaurus:  (to provide karma; go pretty much to any page after page 2.)

He has also volunteered to make custom edited avatars for people who ask in exchange for karma. just PM him.

(these are kinda odd-ball ones created by Landisaurus using official art.)

More are scattered throughout the forums.  Pages 4-7 in particular.  They feature things like 'bear cavalry units' art and 'flying shark units'  and other in-forum jokes.

The following were formatted by Wintersong:  (to provide karma; Wintersong's submissions are mostly on page 8+.  Page 8 to spot the first main batch)

*Coming soon*

This OP is under construction.  Due to some browsing issues it is being completely reformatted and built from scratch.  There are other user avatars and lots of additional avatars that are supposed to be here in the OP.  Jalicos (page: 15) and eplekogen (page: 5) come to mind right away.  They should have avatars in this OP soon.  Of course wintersong has tons of avatars scattered throughout the web.  its a work in progress tracking them down and sorting into 'official art' and 'unofficial art' especially since some of the old 'official' art did not match the current style as well as others.

We are busy people though, and editing this takes more time than one might think.

Unofficial art Avatars:  (also coming soon... there are tons in the "view edits" below that should be resurrected up here soon)
(these were not made with Elemental Art, but were inspired by Elemental: War of Magic and/or similar works)

Yeah, wintersong has created a few MoM / WoM hybrids.   I proudly hold the most at the moment, but thats because I just duplicated the 14 characters over again with a different E:WoM element.

I think my framed Sass'ra is the only one that includes MoM, E:WoM, and true personalization.  (By that I mean, I didn't just merge them, I edited it as well to make it more mine, rather than just a stolen image)

I may have to whip out a new batch of pictures soon, just to ensure that Wintersong remains behind me in count.  (though if that happens I may pass Luckmann too, which will be an accomplishment)

I was just talking about your current avatar as a nice homage to Elemental's inspirational roots. Wintersong's moodiness is interesting, but basically I'm Internet-old and I don't like to re-learn avatars all the time. (I'm really Internet-old now that I think about it. I'd not miss avatars at all if the forums stopped supporting them, and I'd enjoy reading and typing here if it was a plain-text interface.)

Actually, second f\to last in the Wintersong avatar block is something that LOOKS like an Elemental/MoM hybrid.... oh, btw, Winter: can I use the element-symbol border off of one of your avatars to make my own? (I always ask before using ANYBODY's stuff.....)
I hold no rights over any of the images I use so feel free to do so. |-)

Oh, Swicord, do like me and read the user names even if the avatar seems familiar.

No offense meant, Winter. It might have been better to say something like your regular avatar changes are an exception to prove my 'rule.' But in general, I'm lazy, and the human eye seems to seek pictures over text even if the particular human depends on mucking with the latter for a living.

Just wanted to get into the Elemental spirit without ceasing my Metroid Mod plug. I might do the other logos, if I'm bored....

I force myself to check the user name. Be it avatar changes (ie mine) or some people using the same, user names tend to be unique. Avatars are nothing but a luxury (I like to abuse? XD ).

well, technically under US copyright law you can claim ownership of any image, even if basically copied from an already copyrighted image provided it was changed more than 30%.  So if you just flip an image you can claim copyrights over it (provided the flip is not also copyright, which many art/image-focused companies do for exactly that reason)

This community is rather small in terms of shear numbers. I count only about 20 - 25 regular active members. With so few people the odds of having numerous repeat avatars is low so you could totally base person recognition off of the avatar. That being said I look at an avatar once and assign it to a name. After that I typically ignore it unless something changes.

I don't have any Green Card or similar so I'm going to suppose that I should rule myself by the rules of my country (which happen to ban me from certain types of contests done by some game developers...) if I were interested in holding rights over Stardock's (and other people not from the USA) material that I used for avatars.

@Darkodinplus: I know, I know, the same as my eyes always try to read any subtitles there happen to be in videos. Even if I have no idea of the language of those subtitles. So I have to force myself to focus on the images and not the text. ^_^' Btw, your post breaks my IE 8. (and no, Firefox isn't the only alternative and I'm free to suffer the browser of my choice. :P)

I was using Safari 4 but I got tired of not being able to quote. So I'm using firefox now, unfortunately it also has some issues. I tried Chrome but the quote button didn't work for it either and I hate IE 8 with a vigorous passion.

Well, here are the other emblems given to use by Frogboy.  I also turned the generic symbol (I assume to represent the 'tech' window)

Right now they are very low resolution, because I ripped them from the image he posted with them in it.   So I have 2 versions of each image.   A high resolution (100x100) to maximize the size allowed for avatars on this site.  and a "low" resolution which is the original resolution from the picture (so no 'fuzziness' from resizing)

I went ahead and included the silver border, mostly to try to minimize resizing and maximum actual size, but  in part to make them stand out from the others.  If frogboy DOES give us high resolution versions of these emblems I may not include the silver borders on the 100x100 versions (or might just redo all the "original sized" images to be the ones that include the silver border.)

Here are the original sized images:

Here are the higher resolution images (100x100)

And here is the tech redone with Wintersong's influence.  For some reason when I was doing this one I recieved the urge to do this.  Also, I have not created one with all 5 elements present on it yet, and this one was already small enough to make room for the life element at the top (infact I still had to size it up)

(I can't make only personal avatars and sit back while "official" avatars get shown off.  I expect an explosion in august when the alpha comes up)

You know, I realized I forgot 3 characters in Master of Magic.

I always assumed the characters in the opening sequence were Tauronn and Merlin, (with Tauron bearing a blue cloak for some reason)  However, now that I have looked at it more closely, I realize, no...  after looking at him, I discover he is rather different.  His face is shapped a tad different, including different hair color, skin color, and ear rings.  (or at least I think they are ear rings, otherwise they are HUGE ears and I'm unsure of the light source that lights them.  He wears gloves, and I've never seen any of the official wizards with a staff.  Of course, the lack of red is a big note.

There are many similarities, like it seems he has a similar collar underneath his hood.  His facial hair is very similar (though I cannot be sure since I think I see a bit of neck on the left side of his chin when he talks, which would suggest he does not have the extended side burns.)  and his hair line is the same shape.

anyway, in case he is a unique wizard that was killed before the opening credits (which would explain why he doesn't look like tamren) here he is:

The other wizard looks very much like merlin (I think the reason I made any relations) however, he has white hair, where merlin has grey hair.   Perhaps he is merlin's father.  Perhaps he is is just merlin again, except "Merlin the White" rather than "Merlin the Grey".  But if that WAS merlin, and the other guy was somebody different, wouldn't that mean he already discovered the spell of mastery?

And lastly, the most important character.   The one without little would have been possible.

The red shirt.  (or red cloak as it were)

I am so thrilled with my "redshirt" avatar, that I think this calls for a funny demotivational poster.

While I was working on the avatars, I came across this idea.  And I was so tickled that I just had to share it.

And now some crude humor because I say so and landisaurus isn't the only one that has fun:

I approve of anything monkey island related!  Monkey island used to be very on my list of "games that should be remade/sequel'd for modern systems" next to Master of Magic (now pending to be removed by Elemental), Dungeon Keeper, Quest for Glory, Carmagedon, etc.

to be a channeler you must complete... the trails!

You must show that you can handle magic

You must show that you can lead an army

You must start a civilization

Wintersong!   did they update to allow for animated gifs?   What file type did you use to make that cat avatar?

Actually, this has existed for quite some time, but the animations stop whenever Bara messes with the forum code: I think the way I've seen it done is to rename the GIF to JPG, then upload it, but I'm not sure.....

About animated avatars, as scoutdaog said. Some time ago it didn't work, now seems to work. In any case, don't bother trying as it would be considered an abuse, ok? Just strict jpg and png. ;)  (there goes my animated Elemental avatar idea....)

Spartan, really, of all the people here, you are one of those few who should never apologize for being busy.

(there goes my animated Elemental avatar idea....)

If it's any consolation, I snagged a copy and sent it off into the net-aether on account of it being both damned funny in its own right and even more damned funny as part of an ongoing exchange with a friend who's got a reluctant 'foster-kitty' thing going with a stray Russian Blue.

Provided its within the size requirement I don't see how.   I mean, the format requirement is so people don't cry when they can't upload another format.  Also things like BMPs and color-heavy gifs tend to be space heavy.  Naturally animation (gif or otherwise) is talking much bigger files than non animated.   But like, an animated MoM gif?   Wouldn't be that many colors with some tweaking.

I was going to wait until I had more information, but thats exactly what I was hoping to recieve.    I mean if Bara stated that gifs are now working on the forum and I missed it, I'd be all over that.

have you messaged wintersong (the creator of that avatar)?    I've wondered its origins too

The animated "jpg" I used was under the size and weight stablished. (100x100 13.9KB)

True Firefox

I... er... borrowed it from Katie Hofgard's deviant art site. :X At least, I know fromwho this pic is. I cannot say the same about many others I have in the hard drive.

Also seen here: quid about zodiac sign

Btw Swicord, I was refering about an Elemental art based animated pic. It wouldn't be the first in that style (ask BoogieBac) but yes the first in avatar size.
