John McCain for President in 2008!

A liberal supports a Republican... wow!

http://mccain.senate.gov/
I don't care who wins the election on Tuesday... I just hope John McCain runs for the presidency in 2008, because I have a lot of respect for him, and I think he would make an excellent statesman. He also seems to have a lot more integrity than BOTH the current candidates running today, so I think he would be a breath of fresh air.

He has done so much in his senatorial career which is worth mentioning, like his crusade against Pork Barrel practices, his desire for stronger laws for corporate responsibility in the case of fraud and election fundraising reforms.... and that is just the tip of the iceberg. And while I have disagreed with him on a few occasions, these disagreements have not made me angry.

In fact, I have a feeling if he had chosen to run as an independent, he would have garnered some pretty decent votes in this election and made an appreciable dent in both Bush's and Kerry's support because he wouldn't be the lesser of two evils as it were. In short, he is a very capable politician and individual, and not someone who would pander to get votes or ignore facts that were inconvenient to his plans in the White House.

John McCain sucks.

I'm just keeding!

I admire him very much for the things he's endured, the things he's accomplished, and his willingness to stand up for what he believes in. I also like that he's not so smarmy and political seeming (wow, that was a really bad sentence). I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

Even as a Bush supporter I would vote for Sen McCain.

And I have a hard time imagining an "Anyone but McCain" movement.

What about Rudy Guiliani, the man who brought down the Five Families and was Mayor of the Big Apple?

PLINKO!!

Holy cow, I never thought you and I would agree on anything.

If McCain's name showed up on the ballot unexpectedly on Tuesday, I would pull that lever in a heartbeat... And I think if he started his campaign today, he would put up decent totals without a formal campaign.

I believe you are correct on this.

McCain will win in 2008.

McCain has more loyalty to the Republican party than to jump ship and run against the sitting president. Remember that he was Kerry's first choice as a VP. He's more than welcome to run in 2008. I just wonder what the Dems will have as a battle cry, with no Bush on the ticket.

McCain... the true uniter

He shifted a long way over when he was mayor of NY.... which made me a little uncomfortable. Not saying he isn't a good candidate, but I remember some of the things that were said about him before 9/11.... he was a very polarizing influence.

I hope he does run in '08 . . . at least that way we can get through the next 4 years knowing we have something to look forward to.

I wasn't suggesting he should have ran against Bush... I was merely indicating that he would have drawn good bipartisan numbers if he had.

9/11 was good to him . . . it changed public opinion about him and made it blasphemous to speak ill of him, but he really ain't all that.

I like Rudy better, but actually would like to see Lieberman.  That will never happen, but I am more than 80% in agreement with his positions, and that is Higher than Bush.

if the democrats can nominate a decent candidate (like Lieberman), I will vote for him over McCain.  I just am not impressed with him politically.

I'd go with Lieberman, as well, though not over McCain. He's da bomb.

If Kerry wins, then I'm positive that McCain will win in the next election (if he runs), unless Kerry exceeds expectations. If Bush wins, then Clinton will probably run against McCain, and the real ultimate battle will begin.

That seems to be a likely scenario

McCain vs Clinton would be the biggest landslide since 1984.

I would tend to agree with that too... though I think it would be a merely decisive victory, not a landslide of that order.

I agree with this for one BIG reason. The American people like John McCain and trust him a lot more than Billary!

Hey, McCain is good, but lets forget Billary!  Lieberman! Lieberman! Lieberman!

It is his time!  I hope he will serve.  I was so hoping he would win this year.  But alas.

If Kerry wins, yea McCain.  But if Bush wins, watch out for Lieberman!  I am not sure that Billary will even win her next Senate contest.  I here Rudy may be Challenging her!  But it is NY after all......

McCain vs. Lieberman would be a contest between two truly decent men and would be a tough decision for conservatives. I respect them both tremendously.

McCain vs. Hillary would be very interesting, but Hillary would bring along so many negatives that I doubt she'd stand a fighting chance against him. Against other Republican candidates, that's a different story. There are very few likely to have the political strength of McCain by 2008. Also depends on what happens over the next 4 years if Bush is re-elected. If things go to hell in a handbasket (doubt they will), even if not W's fault, the 2008 election could be very tough for any Republican.

Actually McCain is the only logical candidate for the republicans to field.

Which is why he might not run.... because it seems so logical. Just think of the people expect to run for the 2000 race in 1996.
