Logon Screens Don't Change When I click apply

When I try to change my logon screen by clicking on apply once I've chosen the screen I want, the screen switches to the logon screen that is currently running without changing to the screen I selected. Re-starting the pc does not change this behavior. Any suggestions?
Try other logons. Is this true for all logons or just a particualr one? If others work then you have a bad logon file.
You click on the thumbnail of the logon you want, then click apply it should take you to the logon screen immediately and require you to type in your password to get back to the desktop. Then when you reboot you should see the same logon. Where in the process does it breakdown?
The anomaly occurs no matter what logon screen I choose. After choosing the screen I wish to use, it takes me to the logon screen that is already assigned, and not the screen I had just selected. Logging back in changes nothing, just as re-booting changes nothine as well. The program appears to function without error messages but is not performing. Thanx in advance for any assistance you may offer.
