How do I know if I installed 2.0 properly?

I installed impulse, and finally after looking around, I think I installed 2.0. I clicked on update, but then DA disapeared and only GC II was left. I don't think 2.0 can install in less than 10 seconds.

So I started DA and it said version 2.0. But nothing looks different for me. Did I do anything wrong? I know when I updated DA to the latest version before 2.0, it took a long time for to download and install. How can 2.0 be done in less then 10 seconds? I see no new features in the options screen when starting a new game.

What can I do, or should I do now?

I just double checked on Impulse, it says under the my games tabe, GC II update avaliable, and DA Installed. Not shure if this helps at all.

While I don't believe DA could perform the necessary update in 10 seconds, either, it is relevant that the update is a mere 2.7MB.  If you fire up DA and start a new game, after you make contact with a race check your Espionage screen under Domestic Stats.  If you see the race there for you to place a civ-level spy, you've been updated to 2.0.  As a note, the window itself will show before you meet any races, but no races will be seen.

There's also the title screen, which shows the version, and the titlebar in the taskbar, which also shows the version, but a mechanics check wouldn't hurt.

When I was updating I realized that DL also gets an update, did youchecked that one out? because for the time it took to download it seemed pretty big.

I noticed the DL update, haven't been ingame yet to see what changes have been made, but didn't notice it taking very long to install-perhaps 2-3 minutes at the outside.

Well I did an uninstall and did a reinstall and when I went on Impulse it said it wasn't installed. Mind you I didn't update it through the other way we use to do it. (what was it called?)

So I tried to click on impulse to install DA to see what happens and now I have 2 versions of DA, one says 1.5 or what ever it was, and when I clicked on the other icon it said 2.0.

Again when I am in 2.0, I don't see any difference at all. It looks just like the old version of DA. Do you need ToA to see the difference? I read the change log but it looks like it is for ToA not DA. What is the difference for DA?

Just making shure, when I start up my DA on the main screen, I can't go to ship builder. I thought they said we can go to ship builder withot starting a game.

Ship builder is TA only.  The primary thing you'll notice with DA is the somewhat redesigned espionage system-read my first reply.

1.5 is DL, not DA.  DA runs off of DL's files, though, so it's kind of necessary.

Sole Soul I missed your first post, sorry. I am reinstalling GC II right now. Boy this is taking a while doing it from Impulse. After that I will do DA. I will start a small map and hope I will get into contact with anthour civilization. I will check out what you said.

Thanks alot for your help.

What is a civ level spy? I see like 5 empty spaces where I think I can place a spy. Is this what you are talking about?

Thank you for your help again.

Apparently there may be a beta DA and maybe TA.  You can't tell from the opening screen.

Maddening.  I unchecked the beta box.  I have downloading, uninstalling, and reinstalling.  Still

haven't got the new TA working at home.  Did work at my office.  But I don't play there, just test.

They need to get there opening screens to reveal whether it is beta or not.  I am still having the

problem at home of TA complaining I have an earlier version of DA (even though it says 2.0).

Redownloaded DA, still the problem, now doing the same with TA.

Should be 4 per civ-it's much, much more obvious when you've actually met one, which is why I suggested making contact first.

bryce, if you have the above mentioned spying system in DA, you have 2.0.  If you have the "new" spying system and the ship designer (as well as the new galaxy settings) in TA and did not play the 1.99 beta, you have 2.0.  Otherwise, I'm not sure what I can do to help.

The easiest way to know is if you have TA and it has the new opening screen with the ship designer.

If you don't have the non-beta 2.0 DA, TA will complain and say you don't have the latest version of

DA.  It will say you have version 1.8xxx.  Even though the opening screen of DA says 2.0.

You need to make sure that the blue orb at the top of Impulse is clicked and you are taking pre-release

versions (betas).

The opening screen of DA right now doesn't say whether you DA 2.0 beta or 2.0 non-beta.

If you are not confused, you don't understand.

I did as you suggested. I made the smallest map and made contact on turn one. Do you mean I have to play some turns once I get my spy? That will be over 30 turns or so before I get my first spy.I never noticed those 4 squares before.

Well of to start a new game and see what happens and hope I have fun. It took me a while to get the games reinstalled. I have no idea why I am having problems installing the game with my disks now, never had that problem before, but Impulse installed GC II and DA for me so I hope all is well now.

thanks for you help.

The boxes should show up regardless of whether or not you have spies.  My apologies for not being clear.  I take it since you mentioned four squares that you do indeed see them, which would certainly be a very strong indicator that you are in fact on 2.0.

Well I did anthour complete uninstall. I reinstalled GC II through Impulse, seemed to take forever. Then I installed DA through Impulse. I guess it installs it to the C drive and programfiles and what ever it did. It seems to be working now.
