Crystal and Metal Extractor Vehicles...?

(Or if the Asteroids Have Crystal & Metal Extractor Modules, How Come We Can't Make The Vehicles?)

I know its a silly question, but i thought if there were extractor vehicles, then we could load up on the asteroids out in space and use extractor vehicles to mine them.  I know they mine already, but it would be nice to have the miners "move"  :)

It might throw a little more micro management into the mix. Battles are a bit heavy to micro... but the resourcing and the mining i wouldnt mind having a little more micro-management.

Anyway, when i click on an asteroid there is a crystal extractor, or metal extractor listed in the abilities area. And in the gameinfo folder they are listed in planetmodules. But of course like all planet modules they are static and dont move.

Which i am trying to figure out a way around...:)  I got the mobile defense to move by making a frigate out of the beam defense. And am now trying to build a crystal and metal extractor that i can have as separate vehicles from the asteroids. Has anyone tried this yet?  Or does anyone know where the icon in the ability area links to? An ability? A buff? Something that i can get my hands on to try and move into a moveable vehicle?   :)

I'll give you moral support and ask you how you're story is coming along! I'm dying to hear the story of the abandonned advent girl, the killer vasari or noble TEC ship commander!

BTW you're really trying to make this game as 'movable' as possible arent you! W8 a bit, and well have gigantic cargo ships capable of emptying and entire planet of populations and moving them to a new planet with very high underdevellopement rated :)!

The idea is awesome, as everything you write down! but if it has to go into frigate tab, well then thats 2 less battle ships that you can create!

Considering we already have phase jumping trade ships, I really like the idea of using the refinery ship model as a shipping force.  Wonder if it was toyed with in beta.

In-system would be pretty damn safe as the ships would just wait at the asteroid and move to the planet and back when they had a full cargo.  From asteroids in dead systems, you could have them phase to the nearest controlled system.  This would allow for more strategy as well with opponents being able to cut off some of your resource supply if you left a mining colony completely defenseless.

Well, what Sins really needs is viable refining.  As it stands it isn't worth the slots as you can build a trade port instead, and then buy your metal/crystal on the black market.  Each trade port gives around 1.1 creds a second, plus longer routes give more creds each port.  Refineries aren't cumulative, and three refineries takes up 12 logistical slots, which is three trade ports.  So basically, three trade ports for over 3 creds a second, or 3 refineries for .5 metal/crsytal?  People will ALWAYS build the trade ports instead.

Does ANYONE build refineries while playing?  Maybe if refineries cost less slots or were more efficient, yes.  As it is, I got yelled at for making them in a multiplayer game.

LOL! I use refineries....all the time!

While I can get what you're saying about multiple refineries not being cumulative in the same system, without going in-game and researching it right now, I'd have to say I was pretty sure that refinery ship chains from multiple systems do in fact give a pretty decent bonus.

Do refineries have chain bonuses similar to trade ports?  I'm not sure.

Well they get bonuses form nearby asteroids and steroids belts!!! you can have up to 3 refineries per metal/crystal extractor so in the long run, it gives a pretty good boost to metal/crystal income!

They don't give bonuses per se, they just have a 1 jump range so 3 refineries max out production on the planet they're built on and all planets one jump away. With proper placement, it can be a pretty good bonus if 3 refineries can cover 3-4 planets with 3-4 mines on each.

:)  Thank you ShadowMastif2468,   :)  It is the weekend now, and no school, so will try to do it tonight or tomorrow.  :)

I'm kind of excited too, just hoping it isn't too, you know, well... not too good, but well... haha... i guess even then its okie, im not a pro, just an amateur.  But yes, the advent girl story was the one i wanted to start on first... Im trying to think of a title...  :)

Something, you know... loss-ish...  :)

Anyway, i will post it as quick as i can finish it. Its all in my head, the overall part, i just dont have the individual scenes in my head, but that usually happens for me when i sit down and start writing.  :)  See you soon and take care and keep modding and gaming!!  :)

Hmmm... i guess it really doesnt have to go into a frigate, im just trying to think how to get it to work, i tried with the mobile defense by dropping in the speed params from the frigate, and that worked. I thought to try and duplicate that, but so far, nothing... i cant figure out where the crystal and metal extractors are tied. The planet module has nothing i can see that specify anything i can copy and move to another file, and my luck with trying to get the planetmodules to move has been nil.  :(  anyway, its not the end of the world if i cant do it, haha, but maybe the other modders or the devs know something a beginning modder can do to get it to work.  :)

Thanks for the moral support!!

Take care,

This is just a beginners thought but perhaps if refineries were as you said more cost effective. I have been making refineries, but had NO idea that they were less creds... haha, well, i should pay attention more. But if say refineries gave you twice or perhaps 50% more than the trade ports, then it would be better, and as you mentioned, i think, it would help small planets that didnt have an extended empire yet. For those large and system wide empires, the trade ports might make more sense.  Anyway, thank you for a very very interesing idea, i hope the devs are listening.  :)

Nope  :)  Haha... but thats okie, have fun, dont forget the wife and kids though.  :)

Oh... about the extractors... Wraith did it already in his HomeWorld mod, it is very very cool. He has the resource harvesters from HW go to each asteroid with a extractor and it collects the crystal and metal, i doubt it changes much under the hood, but visually it is soooooo cool to see the harvesters do that!!  :)  Wraith has done a superb job on his mod. It is very very cool.... If you like HW check it out... :)

Indeed, seems a bit unbalanced. If you get rid of the last two, you should have enough time no?

Getting rid of university won't be hard sine I'm good at it anyways :) but getting rid of the job means being home 24h/7j and that means a mother on my back that can't shut up :(! So unfortunately, I'm stuck with this...

I'll just reduce my sleeping hours from 8 to 6..should give me some extra time! And I'll mod at work (well work on ship data, modding is always better on the good old desktop)! :D
