changing beam colors

i didnt really do any research on it (im being lazy :p) but how do you modify the color of the beams/effects? if anyone wants to point me in the direction of how to or explain it themselves, it would be apreciated.

You have to use the Particle Forge, which you can download off this site. You can change basic stuff like color, size and behaviour of effects. For beams, however, you have to create or edit texture files, which are referenced in the entity file of a ship which is firing the said beams. If you want to create entirely new effects, that too will require some texture making on your part, though you can use the vanilla stuff and simply mix and match them to make as yet unseen effects as well.

You can change the colors of beams in the ship files where the weapon is referenced and the specs for it, like distance, type, sound, color is listed usually with a hex number like fffffff and the colors usually are listed by core color and glow color. I noticed in the advent beam weapons the colors are all f's, and the color is blue. On some of the tec ships the beam color is orange and the ship beam colors are listed as f's and the core color i believe is half f's and half 0 (zero's)

You are most welcome!!  :)

Manshooter has the best idea, but getting through particle forge is a little over my head right now, im still doing things with file values, which of course is limited and certainly not as direct as with the forge tools. Maybe one of these days i can sit down with the program and figure it out.  :)

Take care,  ... Oh Manshooter, what is the status on "The Last Stand"?   :)  It looks very very cool!  :)

Going along pretty well Teal. :)

As for Particle Forge, it can be a bit daunting to look at, but its real easy and fast to make custom effects once you play around with it for a bit. Just remember to watch your particle count, because you can actually get some pretty nice effects like smoke and fire if you crank the count up into hundreds (I once went for several thousand just for kicks), but that won't agree too well with the engine. Always keep in mind not only the particle count for that specific effect, but also on how many instances of that effect you expect to be rendered in the game engine at the same time (for example, weapon effects should generally have a low particle count because you can see hundreds of them onscreen at a time).

Ya I know this is a old topic but It helped me and I that I should share what I learned. Ignore the first two F's and follow this to change beam color, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Html_color.
