So a short while back the Afghans had their first democratic election after 25 years of war. I was intrigued by an article that ran in The Daily Texan .
Unsurprisingly things did not go perfect for the first election. There are reports of voting fraud. The part that got me to wishing that the US would be like Afghanistan was the quote by Hamid Karzai's cheif rival, former Education Minister Yunus Qanooni, after it was clear he would lose the election:
"For the national interest and so the country does not go into crisis, we will respect the result of the election,"
One can only hope that whomever wins this Tuesday, the loser will be so gracious, but I'm not holding my breath.
