Help with getting Mods to take effect

Hi, I just purchased the SINS game recently so forgive me if I'm making noob mistakes, but I've got a problem with my mod changes having any effect.  From everything I've understood you can copy everything in the GameInfo folder (entity files and such) over to the mod folder and then activate it via the options panel.  Well, I copied the original GameInfo folder directly into the mods folder then made several changes to capital ships, cannons, etc.  However, even though I have the mod set to load each time the game starts, none of the changes seem to have any effect.  I don't think I've got it to deep in folders as it seems is the usual problem.  It's just:  Sins of a Solar Empire > Mods > GameInfo

Can anyone tell me how to fix this, or if what I'm doing is even the right thing when modding to begin with?  Thanks a lot!

ok, first of f here is how you make a mod, you got to have it Sins of a Solar Empire > Mods > {mod name} > GameInfo. also i sugest leaving the original foldures in the sins directory and using the reference data files for changes (wich you would have had to use for the specific changes you wanted anyhow. hope this helps.

I would recommend reading through (and doing the examples in) the SINS_modset.pdf located in the Documentation folder of the mod pack download. It walks you through setting up the folders, making a new selectable race, and a few basic changes so you can get the hang of how mods get pieced together :)

:) we were boath new to this at one point in time also, the best thing to do is just look at the files and see what the code does (its fairly basic and you will learn fast if you got the pacients, its just time consuming). theres a program that was released that alows you to make changes on the fly while playing the game, that will really help you also. at any rate, the best of luck moding and thanks :p
