Display full filename setting in Windows Explorer?

I believe that this is related to font settings stored in the skins, but can't figure out where.

In Windows Explorer I have filenames randomly shortened and finished off with ellipses.  The annoying thing is that I can ususally see the first letter of the extension.  I also have filenames that are longer than a shortened one display in their entirety.

This tends to happen with the non-Stardock Design skins, which is why I believe this is a font setting.  (I'm lookin' at you, vStyler, though you make great skins.)

Any ideas?

First of all what view setting in Explorer are you using?  I'm assuming you're referring to the Details view since that is what your example looks like.  In the Details view the column widths are adjustable by grabbing and sliding the column header separators left and right.  I'm not sure exactly what strangeness is happening with your 203 example but, there is something that looks like its indicating the file name is truncated.  Have you tried moving the column width settings in Explorer to see the effect?

Ah, yes.  I'm using List view, so I don't have any column sizes that I know of.

Well I'm not sure where the defferences are but, on my XP SP3 version of explorer there is no truncation or use of ellipses in the List view.  Since you say it is WB theme issue what themes?  I have several of vStyler's themes perhaps I could try loading one to see if I get the same result you have.

Its the font... Calibri tends to do that... you can blame Microsoft for it. O:)

I can't duplicate what the OP has indicated in explorer.  I've tried Rapture, Harmony, SexyXP, Vienna and Stargate SG1 and my List View in Explorer does not truncate or use ellipses in the file names.  I even chose a folder that has a file name in it that is about 50 characters long.

So, what other software does the OP install and use?   Something other than explorer and WB themes is causing this problem  on Hiedran's PC.  Either it's a different version of Windows or there's something installed on Heidran's pc that's causing this.

Ahhh, something just occurred to me those file name shown in the OP are WinAmp files.  Is this problem somehow caused by how WinAmp created the files?

Sorry for the delay, I've been watching the Saints lose.

I've seen this with Vienna 2, Vienna 3, Outer Limits, Leo (by Stardock Design, contrary to earlier post).  I'm currently on StealthOS.

This happens with any file type, or even directories.  The Winamp icons are just because I'm working in that directory and could easily grab a screen.

Here's a screen of the same thing happening to Excel.

Fonts in StealthOS:

Arial, Microsoft Sans Serif, and Tahoma.

Here's the same directory as the most current screen while using Diamond (by Stardock Design):

I don't know, it's a strange problem.  I can't duplicate the problem you showed with StealthOS, Vienna2 or any other Blind.  It could be your install of WB though.

I don't match your Wblind.dll and Wbsrv.dll dates for the exact same build and OS.  Since I'm not having these issues you should try to de-install Window Blinds, re-boot and re-install with Impulse.

I'll try, but this behavior has been going on since I installed WB6.0, and it might have happened with WB5 as well.

Since it can't be duplicated, I'm going to guess that something funny in Windows is getting tripped.

Results will be over two hours from now, as I need to go finish getting ready to go to work.

Uninstalling and reinstalling has StealthOS displaying the full filename, so problem solved.

Looking in the fonts defined for Outer Limits, the only vStyler skin I have installed at the moment, I see Aston-F1 font, which I don't have.  I also see a lot of fonts defined at size -11 or -12.

For example, alphatitle is Segoe UI, -11.  Grouped is Tahoma, -12.  I wonder if that has something to do with creating my problem.

Not likely.  You had a bad install of WB.  The file date mis-match for both Wblind.dll and Wbsrv.dll was a good indication of the problem and its Window Blinds connection.

Except that my Wblind.dll and Wbsrv.dll are the same as before.  Wbconfig.exe is different.

Don't know what to tell you.  PC's and their software sometimes make little to no sense.  I applied logic based on things I have seen posted for a few years now.  Here's my info:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.3 (build 67 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

Since I am not Stardock I don't have any offical means of knowing exactly what dates these are supposed to be.  I did know I'm not seeing any of the problems you posted so.... the first effort to remedy a Window Blinds problem which is what your original post and replies indicated is to de-install, reboot and re-install therefore I recommended that.  Apparently that worked.

Who knows the great mysteries of Stardock's numerous releases, builds and installs.  One thing is certain more of the same.

Mine via SDC (usually download to archive, unload, uninstall, reboot, restore new archive)

I'm using Vienna2 and haven't seen that in any folder, any view - if it's a font issue it's weird cuz in reply #7 the truncated ones are shorter than the "sample file 2 of ps_health_benefit.xls", yet longer than some of the others

Ya and notice how none of us show the same file dates.  I did a straight update while in use with Impulse.  I also tend towards if it ain't broke don't fix it.

dates for standalone, SDC & Impulse can differ

dates can differ between a full uninstall old, install new & straight update (i think one of Neil's replies a long while back said a straight update will only update those files needing it)

Ahhh.  I'll try to remember this.
