I asked this in one of the existing beta threads, and I'm fairly sure its coming out today on Impulse (I'm under the impression that stardock usually puts out updates at ~6 pm EDT, but you never know) and some point later on SDC.

The Betas are only going up on Impulse. Once all the bugs are worked out, we'll put the 2.0 gold up on SDC as well.

  Sorry for the inconvenience.

So SDC won't see 2.0 until the beta is done and 2.0 goes live.

*edit*

Hrm, had to remove my quote from this thread since I couldn't get 2 quotes in for some odd reason.

So hopefully today then?

By 6pm eastern or tomorrow by the same time but most likely its 6pm just little over an hour away... DONT MAKE ME BEG!

The 6PM thing is as in "not before 6PM usually" I've seen releases come out later on average. The SD guys are workaholics and seem to work some long hours at times :) .

Not happening tonight- just got word.  Don't expect anything tomorrow either- prob not until Monday.

hum now that I know that the beta won't be on SDC

does that mean that given time SDC will be dropped ? and that impulse is now your delivering platform of choice ?

They said it's going to happen someday.  The final 2.0 will be on SDC, just not the betas.

Impulse has improved a lot from when it's first launched though, so there's little need for SDC now, unless you're running a computer so old that GC2 won't run on it easily.

I'm just running SDC because that's the software I was used to, and since I don't know what exactly are the plus and cons of impulse ...

Its new, its improved and its the only one functional in a few.

SDC wont be used anymore.

You can access the beta right now, but you have to uninstall the game first if you used SDC to get it, and then re-install through Impulse.

Just don't do it all at once

hahaha lol awesome functionnality

I knew there had to be some drawback, tell me do I have to redownload too because the archive format ain't the same ?

SDC is then better IMO, now when impulse is going to recognize automatically by itself that the games are already on my hard drive, then we'll talk O:)

Now it's too bad I didn't know that when I filled the poll  :S

Can anyone provide confirmation here. The beta is available as of today but only if you installed the game using Impulse? And if so can someone provide more details about some features in the beta that we haven't heard about yet.

It's there.  I'm a little confused about the colony governors though.  Is there a way to view or set them without having to click on each planet and go under Details?

Impulse detects everything automatically on my PC.

SDC, also.

You can download the beta now (I got it yesterday afternoon),  but all of this uninstall/reinstall stuff is rubbish. Impulse will detect any Stardock app and suggest the appropriate update. It doesn't matter when/where/how it was installed.

How do you download the beta from impulse, is it automatic? I'm asking cause when I open up impulse it lists TA in the games / update section but I don't see any options on downloading the beta.

EDIT: Nvm I got it eventually by following the steps in the "let's take 2.0 for a spin" post (had to uninstall/reinstall)

For anyone following this thread, a little something to make life easier re:2.0.

If you don't see the update, first click the blue orb, then go to preferences/folders, and click the "Reset Data" button. This should bring it up. Also, make sure you have ticked the "Show Pre-Release Versions" boxes.

This worked just fine for me without re-installing.

It seems to be a hit and miss thing . I blue orbed, reset data, showed pr-releases and nothing. (all of this on an original Impulse install), then I used the Impulse uninstall feature, and re-installed it and now I have the beta. Who knows, maybe its an issue with mods or files altered by the editors (my bet), or maybe  its glitchcraft. Who cares I got it now, and maybe someday I'll get past the shipyard editor and actually make it into the game.

I have version 1.96 or something and I guess this is not the new beta....  There is nothing on Impulse... I guess I qwill have to uninstall and try again.

Just for curiosity's sake, how long did you wait for the update to show up? I ask this because Impulse is slow- mind numbingly, frustratingly, screaming at the monitor slow. It took several minutes for it to finally show up for me, and most of the time it was hard to tell if Impulse was doing anything at all.

When the update finally showed up, and I began the download process, it took more than 10 minutes for it to be completed. Over 10 minutes for a 10 meg file! I do archive, but still... At least during this part of the process there is some activity that shows that the program is actually doing something, albeit at a snail's pace.

Not really sure, not more than 20-30 seconds I imagine , then I went the route of uninstall/install. The uninstall took  1-2 minutes, and the reinstall took maybe 5 min.

Ah, I see. If you waited a bit longer, then it *probably* would have shown up for you, but since the un/re install went so quickly, it's a non-issue.

BTW, how did you uninstall Impulse? I can't find the option anywhere.

I didn't. I uninstalled Twilight. In My Games, right click the game icon and the is a menu of  9 options.
