Being attacked but not at war

I'm playing DA from the Gold edition box. I get told by the Impulse site that none of my registered games (DA is registered separately from GAII) need updates.

 

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious but the Korx (the trader guys) and Drengin both keep sending ships that attack my starbases, freighters and (I think) ships) even though I'm not at war with either of them.  I was at war with both once but negotiated a peace with both.  When I check the relations screen in the diplomacy dialogue boxes with each race, it lists other wars they are in, but not with me and I can still trade with them. Also, if I try to attack their bases, it asks I would be declaring war on them and do I want to do that?. OTOH, when I attack a ship of theirs sitting beside one of my bases, about to attack my base and in my territory, I can destroy their ship without a war state beginning. What gives?

Who ARE you at war with?

Note, the AI does tend to trade their ships fairly frequently among themselves, so it's possible (don't know, can't see your game) that you've got, say, the Yor attacking you with Drengin & Korx-built ships.

That's an interesting possiblity, but: I'm at war with the Yor, and it's possible that the 'Drengin' ships are from them, but the Korx ships clearly come from the Korx planets. Then again, when the trades happen, they get the ships wherever they are, don't they? Also, I could never see the attacking ships listed as tradable in the Korx's diplomacy menu, and just assumed they won't trade their best ships. Hmm.  However, the colour of the ships is the right one for Drengin and Korx, not Yor.

Are you playing the Korath or Krynn?  The colors for them and the Korx are darn near each other.  Perhaps those aren't your bases they are blowing up?

Yes Sole Soul, you were right. I checked and in fact the Yor were trading for Korx and Drengin ships then attacking me from the home territory of those civilizations....very nasty considering I'd been avoiding the Korx since their ships could wipe the floor with anything I had, while the Yor were much weaker tech-wise. 

Hats off to the designers for that one. Truly nasty.   i just barely survived, but I had to sacrifice bases and almost all my ships to do it...and then the pirates popped up....
