Building an OD Theme

Changing the Icons

I had purchased OD Plus awhile back and looked at it now and then but, didn't do much with it.  I know it's popular and with the recent updates I thought I should try to do more with it.

I worked my way through changing the background but the icons remain as default.  I'm using the Liquidox Theme which I purchased for Object Desktop which I really like and I would like to make use of all the icons it comes with.  Is there anyway to simply copy the icons to the right directory so OD Plus will use the new images instead of the default ones or do I have to change them all one at a time?  If I need to place them in a directory where is it?  I'm on XP SP3.

Thanks for the help in advance.

You can place the folder of images here: "Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Images"

You do have to change them individually. Follow these steps:

1. Right-click on the icon, and select "Dock Entry Properties"

2. Select "Change Image"

3. Either browse in the folder tree on the left of the "Choose a new image" dialog box, or use the search box in the upper right. If all of your images are in the same folder, then using the folder tree is easy enough. The search box, however, can be exceedingly useful if you know the file name or part of the name.

Hope this helps. BTW- once you get into OD+ and make it fully what you want it, you won't be sorry! And you'll NEVER go back! :cylon:

Mirsguy covered it well...... :)

Only thing I would add is after you get set up remember to "Save Current Dock" on the Themes tab. I have several "versions" of each dock using different pngs in order to match up with certain blinds.

Yep thanks guys.  It's been what I've discovered.  I read the Wiki and that helped as well.

I decided to put my Liquidox Icons I'm using in this location "Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Images\Liquidox\" so as I develop different themes they'll be organized.

I can understand why each icon image has to be selected since it is so customizable as to what you can put on your dock.

However it would be nice to have the "stock" library of icons change out in total with a skinned library of icons.  It would make creating new themes much easier.

Thanks again. :P

When I first got OD+ it came with the "Last" icons....not sure if it still does but I do know that for a few things like Firefox, Word, Internet Explorer, Excel and quite few others they have some "built in" located in C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Bundled Images

Good idea, Lantec! I personally have never done this, since I always stick to the same icons, but it's definately good advice.

BTW- I'm glad you're all set, BigDog!

Alright I've built my first OD Plus desktop using Icon Developer, Icon Packager, PaintDotNet and some downloading of a few OD images.  Overall I'm pleased with it.  I would also consider using Object Bar to compliment the desktop and increase some functions.  I'll have to work on that.

I did a screen shot called Liquidox Docks 2 that's sitting in moderation since last night.  When that cue gets looked at you'll be able to see it then.

Thanks everyone!
